As a landed immigrant, my goods (goods accompanying and goods to follow including vehicle) and I arrived in Canada from the US 6 months ago. I would like to know if I can carry all my goods (goods accompanying and goods to follow including vehicle) back to the US? I propose to return back to Canada (with the goods including vehicle) after 1-2 years to maintain my PR status here. I would have liked to sell off all the items (to avoid any complications) but as per Customs rules I need to own my goods in Canada for 1 year before I am allowed to sell. Hence we are looking at moving once again with all goods and bringing them back to Canada after 1-2 years.
1. Do I need to undergo any paperwork?
2. Would the returning goods (and car) be allowed duty free? I understand that in case of jewellery and other high value items if you take them out of the country, you can bring them back duty-free as long as your can prove that you had them originally when you left Canada. I would presume the same holds true for other goods.
3. In the US do I need to reimport the vehicle for titling it?
4. Do I need to reimport it back into Canada when I come back?
Please help me with some inputs as we need to take some decisions within the next 1 week or so.
