For July, August or September weekend - which is a good choice?
I am interested in landmarks and architecture and places of general interest. Not interested in gambling and theme parks.
Washington DC is my favourite among those 3.
Atlanta is 1 or max 2 days worth, unless you want to drive over to Chattanooga, Helen, Savannah, etc.
Boston is good, but you should combine it with nearby places.
If you have strictly the 3 days of the long weekend, then you will struggle to see everything in DC.
You need at least 5 days to enjoy DC, ideally one full week.
If you have more time, spend 5 days in DC then take the train to Boston and spend a couple of days there.

DC is my fav too, the best thing is you learn so much on american history and see the places you only heard about...and all in free, I mean there are no entrance tickets or any cost involved in seeing landmarks, monuments in DC (all the major monuments, including white house are in a big circle, you can hop from one to another by busses or skating!!) Many Museums also have free entrances. Hey cost is not the factor but all those beautiful places and if someone has to pay US$30 each for each, can be quite pinching.
I've never been to Atlanta and Boston so can't say much but DC is beautiful (hope you don't have very small kids....2-6 yrs, they get bore with DC).

Continuing the same thread I created rather than starting a new one.
-----------
I am going to Washington DC and I need following information.
- Any good "desi" restaurants or restaurant that have some vegetarian options. I will be staying in DC
- Any good tour operator that gives a brief tour of all the sight seeing places. I can then explore the places on my own. I looked at Grayline, but they didn't get good reviews on net.
- What else " to do" except for National Mall/Smithsonian? I will be there for 4 days and I am NOT driving.
- Any safety tips.
Thanks in advance.
One more question
My cellphone won't work in US. Is it possible to buy a SIM card in US that will help me call local numbers and surf the net?
