I see most CD's ( 95 % disaapear ) after getting info from CD and after settling down in Canada, don't be so selfish ! Help NEW immigrants !
Give them tips, share your experiences with them. Give them info. Also warn them about scams, like job scams, phone scams, internet scams, rental scams. Remember once even you were NEW to Canada and got lot of info from CD, so give it back to New people, don't disappear. New people, who come here also don't disaapear from CD after coming here ! help the even newer people comong after you !
The MO of 95 % of the posters, who come to CD is following :
1. About 2-3 months BEFORE coming here i.e while they are still in India. They ask lots and lots of questions like where to live , jobs, rent, expenses, schools for their kids , help them find short term rentals , education, about immigration agents etc.
2. AFTER coming here for about 1 month ask questions mostly about Jobs and Accomodation.
Then Poof ..they disappear ..NEVER to be heard again. No news where they found accomodation, where they found a job, their initial struggles in Canada. No Tips or Info for other New comers. They don't bother to answer any queries for others, as they have NOW achieved their own purpose, so why give back and waste their time on CD ? A very selfish and self centred attitude, I must say.
Not saying Visit CD each day, but maybe once 10-15 days to give info, tips , answer questions of new comers is enough. Also new comers do the same, and don't disappear
Duplicate postings ..Please avoid.
AT ~ Welcome Back & Yes you are right ... There are different categories of CD members ...
a. Those who come on the forum only to ask queries , take help & then disappear only to reappear when they need something.
b. Those who skim & browse through the forum quite regularly but do not take initiative to contribute .. (save their time)
c. Active contributors like you and FH and others who devote their time to the site and help others by sharing their views and contributing their time as well .
To each his own I guess ~ its a pleasure to have you back and get to read your 'well written and informative' posts ..

Fido.
People spend their time in a lot of ways online and offline, Facebook, Whatsapp, desi TV serials sites or desi TV channels, phone chatting with friends and family, news paper sites, etc. So when immigrating they need help and come to CD for information. They remain active for a few months on Canadiandesi. Once initial settling period is over, they go back to how they used to spend their time online: Facebook, Whatsapp, desi TV serials sites or desi TV channels, phone chatting with friends and family, news paper sites, etc. Just my guess

Welcome back AT. Nice 2 c u back. Remembered ur post during Florida vacation. Hope u enjoyed the break. Cheers!
Cons about the Chinese monkeys :
1. Mandatory $ 10 tip ( USD ) per person per day
2. Lot of time spent on the bus going from one place to another.
3. Lot of shopping halts at some BS outlet centres. The guide & driver get paid to bring the bus there.
4. Shopping the bus in the middle of nowhere for some BS Chinese dinner & lunch buffet. Not exactly cheap prices either. Again the driver & guide get paid to bring the bus at some of these places & also get to eat for FREE over there.
5. Too much Chinese " Choi Choi Choi " on the bus & the occasional bad English, when they see a non-Chinese on the bus.
6. They don't really care, whether you enjoy the trip or not. Customer Service is bad. They might kiss the ass of White people to some extent, but quite racist towards black & brown people.
7. Focus on quantity over quality. Been there, Done that & took a Kodak picture in front of it, to show off to your friends & family. That kind of feeling, not much time to actually enjoy the moment.
8. Hectic & Hurried most of the time. Early morning rise & late night arrival. So feeling of being tired & jet lagged all the time. Have to get up early in the morning feeling always at the back of the mind, so can't sleep well at night.
Pros :
1. Relatively cheap. But with tips & tax etc, not really as cheap as before. You will save some money, but NOT a huge amount. The HUGE price advantage is now gone.
2. Hotels are very very good. Mostly 4 star hotels. But you barely get to enjoy the hotel, as you are mostly there to sleep at night & get up early in the morning.
Example : After dinner you will arrive at the hotel at 10.00 PM . Next day there is an alarm for 6.00 am . You have to get ready and be in the lobby for 7.00 am to 7.30 am.
Have a hurried breakfast & bus leaves at 8.00 am .
When the hell are you going to enjoy the 4 star or 5 star hotel ?
Plus whole day you have been travelling & outside for 14-15 hrs, so when you arrive at the hotel, you are just going to crash & got to sleep
3. Generally breakfast ( small buffet type ) is included in the morning. But you have to hurry up & eat it fast, so basically you have to gobble it, without enjoying it much as you have to get on the bus to leave at 8.00 am.
4. You don't have to plan anything as Hotel booking , Driving from one end to another is taken care of. So you don't have the stress & worry of driving, parking, searching for places etc in a foreign city.
Adam,
Looks like the bus option is good for people who are adults and who prefer to click more photographs than actually experiencing it.
If I was jobless, then I would try to see all these places on my own. However, if I was in a job that does not give me enough holidays, I would take tours like this to save time and money while experiencing to the maximum.
There are so many Gora's who back pack, stay in BB, work at odd jobs and see these places in leisure.
