Went to Peel Auto Center today ... The guy's name is Fernando ... he checked the code after scanner and found it indicated a vapor leak in the exhaust system ... clarified it does not affect the car .
Cleared the code , advised me to drive for a couple of days and if the code re appears , would do an exhaust scan to determine which component was @ fault .... cost 50/- ... and then would be able to estimate the repair cost ...
Charged me one time scanning cost of 50/- today .

I think the details are going to be very helpful for our community, let me update a sticky thread I have for used car FAQ and point to this thread in the Maintenance shop section.

TK ,
Good to know abt your experience @ Peel Auto Center which is similar to the first time I went there . Fernando is good .. though he charges you well . ..
I thought you had you troubles ended when you replaced the O2 sensor / timing belt ... Did that also not take care of the problem ...
I have been having this engine light on for the past 3 mos now .... Went to Peel Auto Centre .... said it was an evap leak ... found some sensor rusted ... soldered it... did a smoke test , changed my spark plugs and charged me $200/- + ... Guess what .. the light came back again in 5 days .... will take again .
What was your code ..Mine showing now is P0172 ...system too rich .... making me poorer ... I get sudden gear changes while driving at constant speeds .. Showed it to Airport Car Repair Center .. 11 Belfield Rd ... ( Vicky ) and he said it shd be the catalytic converter .....
Does anyone have experience with P0172 check engine light code .... ?

Check engine light can mean simple thing as meaning less like a bad sensors..
If the auto guy says bad catalytic convertor/tail pipe.. there is no need to change it until ur biennial emissions is due..
if the emissions place insist only then get ur tail pipe fixed.
Check engine light can also mean need for tuneup.. which is not such a critical thing
I would only worry if the mechanic tells u the code is related to tranny..
I know so many people who drive with check engine light on..
