Hi,

I bought a 5 months ago for Multivitamin tablets (Flintstone Brand) for my son. Expire date on bottle is showing 09/2011.

Normally we give one tablet everyday to my son. yesterday i realized that tablet color changed and some odd smell coming out from tablets.

We took it out all the tablets apx. 9 tablets left in bottle originally color was orange flavour and now color fade up and some black pimples showing on tablet itself.

I was wondering is it normal with this kind of tablets or something wrong with tablets. We always keep this medicine in cool place in normal temp.

I am in worry b'cos we gave this tablet my son everyday, anything wrong could be happened?

can i go to drug shop and tell them or customer relatation or any suggestion please.

P.S. : Still i have receipt for medicine.

Please reply with suggestions..........

Thanks

yes if you have receipt take it to the store along with the bottle, they will replace it free of cost, also i recommend not to consume it
did you store in a dry/suuny place, maybe that is the cause of change in colour

If the tablets contained Iron, its possible that it could have oxidized if you left the bottle exposed to sunlight, which probably explains the black colour.

Anyhow, you can definitely take it back to the store and get it refunded. If the store had a pharmacy attached to it, then consult the pharmacist. There will be some follow up by the company that makes the tablets, because it could be a safety issue.

Flintstones is manufactured by Bayer Consumer Healthcare. You can also try reaching them (the toll free number will be on the bottle or the pack)

As for your son, you should consult your doctor and get him checked out (to be on the safe side.)

Yes you are right, this tablets contained Iron, We had been put bottle at cold room temp always, but onething is notice very bad and odd smell coming from tablet and bottle.

Anyone have this kind of situation in past and what steps taken that time? You are right it could be a safety issue. How you can trust when it is clearly showing on your bottle that exp date is 2011.

In the majority of cases, expiry date has nothing to do with the medicine "going bad" . Its just means that the potency of the medicine will keep on reducing after the expiry date. In your case, it could be improper packaging that lead to this mishap.

In terms of what steps need to be taken, I have clearly outlined that in my previous post - contact the store/pharmacy, the manufacturer and a physician.

Again,it's important for you to contact any and preferably all these parties, because they will have to investigate what went wrong with your tablets and issue a recall of that batch , if it is something serious.
