Hi

How much time does a successful applicant have in hand to land in Canada?

(a) within 1 year of medical, (b) before expiry of visa stamped on passport -- generally what is the duration visa? , (c) any other reply...

(Pls use this example: Medical done 01-Jan-2010, visa stamped on 01-Apr-2010)

Thanks in advance

Usually those two dates should be the same.
If there's a difference, best to use the earlier among the two dates.

What's the expiry date on the visa?
Is it 1/1/2010?

Hi Pratickm

Just like my last post, you are the only one who has responded

Thanks buddy.

What I interpret from your reply is that the visa expiry date will be SELECTED to match 1 year of medical. In which case, in the example given the visa expiry will be stamped as 1-Jan-2011.

Correct me if I am wrong. Also, please let me know where is this documented on CIC website (if you know, that is).

Thanks

Usually, yes, unless there is something else going on with the application.
Visa expiry date is never later than 1 year from last medicals - always same or earlier.

Not on the CIC site, but I did find the following link:
http://www.canadavisa.com/canadian-immigration-faq-landing.html
Expand the second item in the FAQ.

Just out of curiousity, why are you looking for a link on CIC site?
Regardless of what the CIC website says, each CHC may have its own policies and procedures and each case may be different.
You have to accept whatever visa expiry date your CHC gives - you cannot quote the CIC website to them and ask them to change something.

Since processing times vary by CHC and on a case-by-case basis, sometimes the passport request is sent very close to the 1 year anniversary of the medicals.
If that happens, you may only have a couple of months, or less, to complete your "landing".
You have to plan for it and be prepared for travel at a short notice because there's no way to extend a PR visa.

You visa will be valid till Jan 2011, you will have to complete your landing before this date.

Here is the link for validity of Medicals for one year ....
