Hi all,

This is my first post. In short my story:

I am a Mechanical engineer with 5 years of experience from India and the USA. I have Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Ohio, US. Currently I am on H1b visa (Started 1st October 2009) but I dont have a project to work on due to recession. I wanted to know are there any job opportunities for me in Canada. If yes how can I come there and apply. I have seen people applying for work visa and coming there and then shifting employers. From the posts it seems that its easy to shift employers in Canada as against the US. Please can you help me in my quest for employment in these hard economic times.

Thank you.

MDK.

1. You will need a job offer from an employer that is also willing to sponsor you through work permit. This is similar to the H1 structure with the exception of, perhaps, shorter lead time and lower expenses.

Once you start working for the employer, if you find another job, you could take it but again the new employer has to sponsor for the new work permit.

2. You can apply for PR which could take months to years.

Reality - there are possibly thousands of Permanent Residents and Citizens without employment. Hence the job market is extremely tight and competitive.

But if u want to get PR then there is some pilot projects in Canada for Skilled workers and professionals which will give u PR within one year.

So what is your intention ? looking for job or getting into Canada?

*****
Dear Friends:
Immigration rules in Canada has changed many times in past few years. The last major change was announced a year ago. I would like you all to be aware about the change and the implication it can have on your decision to immigrate. Here are some of the basic facts:

With the recent amendments in Canada’s immigration system (announced November 27th 2008, effective February 28, 2008), the immigration wait time has drastically reduced. New applicants are now processed within one year of application.

However, these amendments in the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) also provided the Minister of Citizenship and Immigration with the authority to issue instructions establishing the categories of applications that will be processed.

This means that Minister of Immigration will maintain the efficiency of the system by introducing/adding/removing the occupational categories that are best able to respond to Canada’s labour market needs at that time.

As of today, applicants falling within 38 occupations (list enclosed) can apply under the federal skilled worker class.

All,

Thanks for replying guys. I am looking for jobs in CAD/CAM/CAE or any projects related to mechanical Engineering. What kind of pilot projects are these ? Is it kind of INterships, Co-ops or voluntary work? Please let me know the details. Also if you have any consultants dealing with Mechanical/Design industry kindly let me know.

Thanks once again.
