Iam glad to know about you, Iam basically a mechanical engineer presently studying in canada(ottawa). Iam intrested in applying for permanent residence.
I have just arrived 2months back to canada from india.
I want to know if amI eligible to apply for PR, I do have sufficients points required for them.
I also want to know if i do a one yr program here, will i get the workpermit after my course or do we need to have a minimum of 2yr degree.
I want to know if you are doing the processing for PR.

Not meaning to hijack this thread, but could you please give details of what you did to reach this stage. If you could please answer some specific questions, especially in context of someone who has an engineering degree from India:
1. What did you do to get admitted here? What is the complete process and how long does it take?
2. What was the process of getting a student visa and how long did that take?
3. What are the tuition fees and how did you arrange for it? What other finances did you have to arrange before you came here?
4. How are you supporting yourself as a student? Is it easy enough to get jobs within the university itself that provide enough money for tuition as well as living?
5. When can you apply for PR? Do you need at least one year experience in your home country to be eligible for applying for PR?
6. How long is the process to get immigrant status?
7. Were you working back in your home country before you came here as a student? If yes, how long?
9. Any other pertinent details you think are important.
This query also goes to anyone else who can give more information on the whole subject of coming in as a student and managin to stay back as a PR. Special request goes to OttawaNerd. I know you have posted on this earlier, but answers to these questions and more will be greatly appreciated.

1.) I applied to the University of Calgary and UBC in 1998. Got rejected fromk UBC and got admitted to U of C... Applied for a visa in May 1998 (yeah ! the month of Pokhran -2)...Was sure that visa would get rejected.. Finally did get the Visa.. Had to attend an interview at the Taj Continental in Mumbai. Showed my assistanship letter to the guy there. Was issued the visa in August 1998.

5.) I showed my research experience as a 1 year work experience. I was getting a regular salary in India (though it was peanuts).. It helped me augment my years of experience. However, inspite of this, I was still asked to attend an interview at Seattle.
