Hi Guys,

Looking for some information. I am paying EI from last 10 years, I got laid off twice but before EI started I got new job and never get any payment from EI.

Soemtime I think, I am paying this money for no reason. What you think about it. Is there any way or procedure. Govt. return portion of EI payment back to those who haven't avail EI but paying from long time.

I don't know its good question, but share your views.

Regards

I dont think so. Consider it equivalent to paying an insurance premium.

you are right Aurn. Welcome to Canada.
this is the land of milking the hard working and paying the slackers and cheats.
the hard working, full time employed keep paying EI and taxes and the folks who fudge their income taxes, work around the system and exploit loopholes get the benefits.
sorry to give you the bad news, but there is no way around this.
you have to keep paying EI.
your ei will fund those who fudge their taxes to show themselves as "low income", those who claim all sorts of deductions and business expenses to get maximum OAS, CPP, CCTB, GIS, CLB, OSAP, RESP etc. and the hundreds of other "free" govnment subsidies.
if you dont like paying ei your only option is to become self employed or start a home based business.

It is like saying:

I started paying for my life insurance since age 30, and in last 15 years I have fallen sick seriously twice and had one major road accident but came back from hospital 10 days later.

Soemtime I think, I am paying this money (Life Insurance premium) for no reason. What you think about it. Is there any way or procedure. Ins. Co return portion of LI payment back to those who haven't avail LI but paying from long time.

No you totally misunderstand my question. I know, "when I go to hospital twice my insureance company paid for my bills and other expenses." But situation is I haven't go to hospital in my life but keep paying my insurance premium"

Hope this will help

It would be nice to have limit on EI such as 3 years out of 5 and spare them for remaining two years. The same way you have limit on deductions.

You misunderstoof Chandresh's example.
You did go to hospital twice - but you bounced back fast.
The expenses weren't large enough for your insurance company to pay - it was still within the limits of your deductible, for example.
However, it could easily have increased and then your insurance company would have paid - you were lucky.
EI is for such situations.
It is purely an insurance policy, just like life insurance.
You hope that you never need it, but you sleep peacefully knowing that it is there for you if the need arises.
