Hi,
I am an avid follower of Cd. I applied for Canadian Immigration in 2005 from Delhi.
I have stayed in USA for 5 years from 2002-2007 and shifted to Africa as could not get the permanent visa in USA. I speak french fluently and have a marketing background. I want to know if there have been changes in immigration policies in Canada which might hasten the immigration process? I am 40 yrs old and sometimes wonder is it a correct decision to migrate to Canada at this age? If yes then which is the best place to settle in Canada taking into account job prospects.

Thanks

As you know in Engineering Design, you'll start with a concept and then make a prototype, then you'll make an actual product and let the end customer use it and then tinker with it to make a sucessful product.

But then your competition will wait for you to do all the basic engineering, learn from your mistakes and then come up with a product which is one step better than you to make a killing in the market.

To answer your question, I'll suggest that you do not reinvent the wheel.

After saying that let us analyse your post.

You are a person who left New Delhi went to USA and have been exposed to yourself to the western lifestyle and also to certain good aspects of western lifestyle.

After that you have gone to Africa. In my opinion which I assume that life is far better in New Delhi than Africa.

Hence do you want status quo or you want to taste the life you had before?.

No location is perfect and hence you win some and you loose some.

The age is not a barrier at all, but your mind is the barrier.

The whole question boils down to your mind, your willingness to adapt compromise to the situation to attain your end goal.

We come across 25 year old Desis who want to go back to India as they do not find the jobmarket to be as glamorous as in India due to the lack of upward mobility.

While many in the late 40's and early 50's find the fixed routine to be good in Canada compared to the day to day drudegry in India to get your gas refill, electricity cuts, corruption with Babus, heat, poor water supply.

Hence the call is yours and NOT ours in CD.

The reason being that you'll find the members of CD's at various stages of their lives. Some new immigrant with a hot skill set with which they get good jobs, while their family committments are low. They will find Canada heaven. You'll also find people in their middle ages who have migrated sometime ago who have fixed committment like mortgage, car payments and others, find that they are stuck in a redudant career and not able to bail out, while they find their childhood friends in India zoom up in their career. They are stuck without a choice.

You'll also find newly immigrated 40 year old who have had a successful career back home now doing donkeys job. They are frustrated, they do not want to change to the situation and they go into a spiral. But they still over a period of time accept the situation and adapt to it.

You are in a lucky situation.

You have seen a better place than where you are before and you've also seen a worser place than where you are.

Hence it is your call that is what is that you want to do?.

In regards to location all place leads to Rome. YOU ARE FROM DELHI and wherever you land YOU will reach the promised LAND and that is........

Drum Roll PLEASE !.

BRAMPTON.

Hope I wasted a few minutes of your precious time.

I just responded to another Poster with the timings for a Family Class sponsorship.

There is website that gives you the timings for all classes. An Analysis is also posted for the processing and it is at "TRACKITT".

You are pretty close to the processing times and you are in the OLD stream.
Currently they use skilled Class, with NOC Numbers. If you think your qualifications are amongst the numbers posted there in, then you will be here in about an Year. Since you have been hanging in there, I am sure you are in the OLD processing system.

You can make a darn good living in Canada. But first you must have a RECOGNIZED Trade or Qualification. I have posted in this forum with CIIP ACCC Websites for people to get in touch with, while they are there in INDIA? and you being elsewhere see where the nearest location is, and please correspond with them. : http://ciip.accc.ca/ :Also search and see here in the CD website, posted for others. They were made especially for them with proper instructions to follow.

Now you have to do your spade work and see:
1) Do you want to stay in the same old process? Did you pay the Landing fees?
2) If not jettison the old process, BUT, ONLY if Your Job Qualification is in the NOC list and you are in Demanded trades. Otherwise stay right there in the Old system, you have paid your dues by waiting.
3) Then, correspond with the CIIP people and see how you can proceed in getting your educational qualifications recognized. If successful, then, you do know that you can take the "JIFFY" Ride in the NEWer System.
4) Your age is OK with the Immigration. You have a long way to go, but you will have to like an 'Ice Box', to enjoy it. It takes time.

Once you get all of the ducks in a row, you are Ready "to hit the ground and running". At that juncture you make up your decision to switch the process. Here is a summation: 1) did you pay the FEES? 2) Recognition of your Trade or Qualification 3) Plan, How you will have to go about it. 4) Then, make a decision to switch to the New system or stay right where you are.

Freddie.
