Hi Adam,

In the insurance am talking about, they will do underwriting before hand, they are going to do complete check up, do you think I can safely rely on their medical tests in that scenario.

Thanks!

Yeah you will be fine :)

But still read the policy carefully , all the fine print, legal mumbo jumbo, whats covered , not covered, cancellation, exclusions , limits etc.

Ask lot of questions, hopefully everything is in writing.

In India the scam is they will sell you a 10 lac policy, but there is a sub-limit ( cap) for each expense under that. For example Room charges will only be covered upto 1 Lac.

So if your expenses are following :

1. Hospital Room Charges : 2 Lac
2. ALL other expenses : 5 Lac . ( everything doctor fees, ICU charges , Prescription drugs etc etc )

Now your TOTAL bill is only 7 lacs . And you will be like cool, I have a 10 Lac policy, so ALL 7 lac will be covered :)

But guess what they will only cover 6 Lacs of it. :( they will tell you there is a CAP of 1 Lac on room charges, so you have to pay 1 Lac extra from your own pocket, for the 2 Lac Room charges, even though your expense has NOT exceeded 10 lacs and is ONLY 7 lacs.

Update

I dropped the return of Premium option, because you get return of premium when you reach 75.

So right now it's under 25$ per month for "critical illness plus" with 50% coverage of second event.

Agent is asking for SIN and banking and personal information.

Do you guys know if it is ok to provide SIN details for insurance purpose.

Thanks!

I think you are confusing between Critical Insurance and regular medical insurance.

To my knowledge Critical Illness Insurance policy just requires the proof of illness and the whole claim amount is disbursed. This is what is required in times of life threatening illness when it hits someone like a tsunami.

In medical insurance, the expenses may have to be done prior making the claim and everything from hospital room rent to specialist fees, everything would be contested by the insurance co. and only a percentage gets paid.
