Namaste and thanks.

What is better in Canada : Living in a Condo or a townhouse?

Reasons can be: Quality of life, more space, Canadian lifestyle, security, neighbourhood living etc.

We are moving soon, and are confused. Hence would like to know the informed opinion of people already there, and learn from their collective experiences and perspectives.

Thanks as always.

Dear geeta

town vs condo is not comparing apples to apples. Condos have less space but more facilities. You pay a condo fees every month which includes hydro(water and electricity), security, etc. However thetrick is to find a condo with reasonable condo charges (which is in addition to mortgage). Towns would have more space, higher cost of buying and other costs.

In addition to what shubi13 has mentioned...

There are Condo townhouses and freehold townhouses. For a freehold one, there are no monthly maintenance fees, where as for a condo townhouse or condo building there are monthly fees.

Again within condo TH's, I've seen some with a monthly maintenance of around $250 / month (which excludes heat and hydro), others are around $600 (incl heat and hydro). Certainly if you use heat and hydro reasonably, it will be under ($600-$250) $350 a month (These stats are about 6 yrs old, but over time both have increased proportionately)

Hope that helps...

Also property tax for condo is less than for a townhome.

Thx
