Hi,

I was curious to know what is the salary/stipend range when one enrolls for the training program of 30 months for CA program in Canada.

If anyone has any idea regarding any province or area please respond? Just wanted to know if the salary is sufficient enough for my basic expenditure during the 3 years of the course programme.

Thanks.

The training period was recently increased to 36 months.

Average starting salaries at a small CA training office in Ontario is about $37k and $40-45k in regional and big4 firms.

Average salary for a newly qualified CA in Ontario is $70k.

Voltrex,

Isn't 37K p.a. for 3 years too less..after tax and house rent one will be left with nothing to save?

Do you think thats the reason people opt for CGA?

Thanks

Usually the salary in a small CA training office starts at $37k but increases to $55k by the end of the third year. Most newly qualified CAs leave public accounting for industry to take advantage of better pay and less hours/stress.

CAs on average make more than CGAs/CMAs and have better chances of landing senior level positions in fortune 500 companies.

It's like in the US, a CPA with public accounting experience makes more than a CPA with only industry experience.

The reason people opt for the CGA is because the CA route is too tough and they couldn't get hired by a CATO.

CGA is dominated by newcomers and local college students.

It is very competitive to find employment with a CA firm.

"In recognition of the difficulty that a significant number of otherwise qualified individuals may be having in securing employment in a CA Training Office (CATO) during the current economic downturn

Ultimately to apply for admission to membership as a CA, any applicant or student who has been granted exemption by the Registrar under Section 210 must obtain employment in a CATO, fulfill the experience requirements set out in Section 701, and successfully complete or comply with all other requirements of Regulation I."

http://www.icao.on.ca/Admissions/RegistrationOverview/EmploymentExemption/1008page11205.aspx

Here is the list of CA firms in Ontario.

If you want to have a good chance at getting a job at a CATO, then you should apply to the MMPA program.
