Does anyone know of budget short term hotels/hostels which have high speed internet access also available ?

Pick up either a "Let's go Canada" or a "Lonely planet" guide at a local bookstore. You will find many cheap and expensive options listed.

If you're single and don't have too much luggage, a youth hostel may be a good option for you. I stayed at one in Toronto for two weeks initially when I came and it was quite a fun experience. And only paid 15 bucks a night. I think they did have high-speed net access however it was always busy, I ended up using a cyber-cafe close by.

FYI, in most youth hostels, you end up sharing a room with couple of other people, there's shared bathrooms and washrooms. The crowd is mostly young (teens or early twenties) and they're mostly backpackers from other countries. Bathrooms and toilets are shared too, its basically a place to crash at night. I wouldn't recommend them for families.

There are also bed and breakfasts where you can stay with the family and not pay a fortune, you'll find them listed in the above mentioned books as well.

i had once alost moved to starresidences at sheppard/yonge
i have not visited this place myself but it is in a pretty central location and close to subways. their rates were also reasonable for the area.

kercan7478 are you just going to be staying for a short time and they go back after your entry?
If not then i suggest you look for sharing accomodation, else you will be hopping around till you can set foot in the right place. Some people also offer short term temporary accomodation. This way there will be someone to guide you when you are new.
