I am planning to visit during Canada day long weekend .2-3 night stay... one night in Mackinac Island and other 2 nights in beach near Mackinac Island (within couple of hours driving).

Any feedback on hotel/inn in Mackinac Island and the best beaches around Michigan UP(upper peninsula) area?

The July 1 weekend is also July 4 (USA) weekend. Watch out for the crowd. Mackinac Island, I believe, has only one hotel on the island and it could cost you a fortune as it is considered some star hotel. My neighbor has a quote for $600 for a night (includes few fancy stuff...still).

You'll be better off staying at a hotel either in mackinac City or across the bridge in St.Ignace. No automobiles are allowed. You take a ferry and then you have the option of walking (tiring after a while), biking (highly preferred) or buggy ride (sit farthest from the horse's rear end as solid and gaseous outputs are fairly guaranteed).

I am not sure about the beaches. But once you head north after the bridge, there is a shoreline along the highway you can pull over and enjoy a nice view of the bridge. You could also feed sea gulls. I heard alka seltzers make the gulls literally explode (of course, don't try it).

Overall, the island is a beautiful place to visit. We enjoyed the island and then stayed in Newberry (about an hour or so north west) and then visited Tequemenon falls, pictured rocks and so on.

Thanks for your feedback.Per your comment I am thinking of staying in a beachfront hotel in mackinaw city.If I plan to stay 2 nights there will I be able to cover both Mackinac Island and Picture rocks?On my way I am planning to stop by at Flint Mall which will allow me a good break in between

From the pictures etc looks like Water is blue like here in Tobermory.

Mackinac Island is about 4 hour drive from Windsor. I am not sure where you are driving from. Pictured Rocks is about 3 hours from Mackinac Island. That should give you some idea to plan the logistics.

I will be traveling from Waterloo so about 8 hours drive to Mackinaw City.Did online reservation for hotels .one night stay in Mackinaw City and July 2nd in Munising(Pictured Rocks UP)..3rd night will decide on the way
