My old desktop is dying on me. The monitor still works perfectly. Is it worth getting another desktop or should I just get a laptop? Whatever I get will be used by the family for basic internet and microsoft office use and the kids (to play games/do projects etc). Space is not a criterion as I already have table for my existing desktop. Any suggestions regarding pros and cons would be appreciated.
Thanks,

Someone advised me that another good option for me is to get an assembled pc and use my existing monitor. Any suggestions for or against this? Where would I get such an assembled pc in Missisauga?

If you are buying a used computer, there will be only small difference in price whether it is branded or assembled. It will be easier to find drivers for branded ones should you decide to reinstall operating system.

Assembled PCs are good if you can add/remove/maintain stuff on your own. Otherwise it defeats purpose here, as you pay to manage it.

Go for branded desktop - if kids are going to use it for study/projects. Desktop will force them to stay at one place to do work.

Desktop @ about 1000 will buy you Intel Core i7 for sure. More than enough for what you want.

Happy Hunting.
