Dear Members,

Im in the process of migrating next year to Canada from Bahrain.

After I am in Canada, how long before I can apply for sponsoring my mother to come live with me on a permanent basis. Can I start the application asap ?

How long does it take to get a permanent visa for my mom ?

While im doing her application can she live in Canada with me on a visit visa ?

Thank you all.

Once you succeed and land here, you will need to settle down comfortably in a job. To establish yourself successfully it might take TWO Good Years.

Here is why. Obtaining a suitable Diploma or a Degree takes its own time. Then finding a suitable job and settling down comfortably will take an year or more.

This Sponsoring of the Parents is a two part process. You first have to pass the qualifying process. For which they look for an Employment letter and Tax submissions and then the Income Tax assessment paper called (NOA) Notice of Assessment. That takes a minimum of 16-18 months after your obtaining a job. All of these are chronological happenings and there is no way of speeding them. After you submit a Sponsorship Application, it takes about 30-40 days for them to provide you with an approval here from Mississauga. Then the files are transferred to where your Mother is staying and the subsequent process takes another 36 months or there about, currently.

In short you are looking at a period of SIX Years of separation. It is very cruel, but this is the current situation and the facts that goes with it. It sure does give you ample time to prepare for the arrival.

And to your last question, here is a thread that is in progress and you can look at it and also part take in it and plug in your questions and doubts in it too. People will post their views from time to time. So, keep track of things that happen there also.

Freddie.

Even prior to your getting PR, and during the warmer weather, I would urge you and your family to make a trip into Canada on a holiday, and establish the fact that you have obtained a Visa to visit Canada and left subsequently from here. This is an angle worth pursuing, as none that i know have posted to this board. While on a holiday also find a suitable School and an occupation that you can qualify for.

It does not take 30-40 days for the in-Canada processing time and sponsorship approval but 37 months ( at the current time-line). After the file is transferred to the country of residence, it takes another 18-24 months.

My parents case is similar and it got refused due to health issue. Now I am appealing and appeal date is 9th September 2010. If you any good lawyer, let me know.

Unfortunately, my friend's father still has not got the PR due to his heart issues. The case has been under appeal for over one year now. He is using Green and Spiegel law firm which is well reputed (but also expensive). Here is a link to their website
