I am on a One Year Work Permit. Please advice as to when can I apply for Immigration and generally how long does it take to get one?

It has got all the info related to immigration.
If u fulfill all the points criteria, download the forms, fill them up and submit with requisite fees. Application has to be submitted at a visa post outside Canada. At New Delhi there is a waiting period of 2-3 years.
U can try for Buffalo in US.I understand there is a waiting period of 7-8 months at Buffalo.

no my friend. I cannot stay back in India. I have gone to New Delhi and I am told my visa is in post. It will arrive any day and is valid till April.

Main bahut pareshan ho gaya hun. 14000 dollar ke liya I have to borrow. I have to quit my present job. one of my relative's friend is in whitby-toronto. He has allow me to keep at his house for 2 months...after that?? my wife is pure gujarati medium...can understand english...does not speak...can she get a job??I have 2 yr baby. You people post here that babysitting is costly......lot of problem.....finally, I am deciding to come alone....let wife and baby visa expire.

As you people have post, selling water supply pipe is difficult. I have read videseebhai and gujjubhai discussion,....I don't know if selling paper door to door is good....suna hai gorelog gali dete hai....I will try telemarketing...at least...people give gali on phone.....I don't know how difficult it is in getting any job like selling or factory job.

You sound very dissapointed. People come here and face some problems for sure, but the same people do make progress, buy houses and "settle down" in 2/3 years. The problem is when these people face problems, they complain very loudly about it, but after they settle down, they don't say anything.

And that's the reason you hear so many people complaining, but don't hear many people saying good things about Canada. And its also that "Duniya ko laat maro, duniya salaam maregi" mentality here. In the U.S., they get treated like dirt. Starting from the customs officer to the driver's license office to your neighborhood grocery store, they endure racism almost everyday. And they great things about America. In Canada, there's not much racism. You may not get as much money, but you get treated like an equal (at least that's my experience). And people start calling Canada and Canadians names.

My point is, don't lose the battle before you've fought it. Its a good idea to let your wife/kid come later, that makes sense. However you should try to find a job in your field here first before giving up. Try at least 2 mos. or so. Telemarketing and other jobs are always there if this does not work out.

And by the way, do you know any desis who lived in Canada for 5 years and went back to India? I didn't think so.
