I would still sugest you to find a job in Alberta with Shell, Petro canada and Bantrel. They do have some projects in ME and will second you to those locations for a short period and bring you back to Canada with job security.
With this option you can make some quick money while you are at ME.

I have no clue about US.
We are not worried about US at this point of time with OP asking about ME.
But sure i know the implication of losing job in ME.
