Fellow Cds ,
Inkjet cartridges are damn expensive and I am looking for views here:
I bought Lexmark prospect 205 (print, scan, fax) few months back ($ 120 ) , all cartridges are consumed and as I enquired the cost for new b&W and color cartridges will be around $140.
pls guide me with following options I am contemplating :
Opt 1 : Better buy a new printer which will be lesser in cost than new cartridges and use old one only for scanning and making pdfs to computer. (the scan quality is amazing of lexmark). (have a luxary of 2 printers in home Lol)
Opt 2 : Scumb to the printer market gimmick and spend 140 $ to get the cartridges.
Opt 3 : Get some cheap refiller syringes and fill in the old cartridges or get it filled cheap (suggested by one of my friend who is in our native land, is it possible here ? )
Opt 4 : Take the data on flash drive and get it printed from a shop. (not preferred though! ).
Opt 5 : Do only B& W prints at home , buy laserjet and all colors to be done from shop.
Any similar experience ? What is the best way ? any more options or suggestions ?
USAGE : Only for the home printing, photos, or college assignments to be prepared (currently by my student wife , later on by the kid when starts to go school) . I am not running any business.
Refilling is advisable and only Refilling TWICE only by professional refiller, it may cost you $10-15per cartridges. Don't try at home it may not worth because it has to be filled untill exact level or it won't work.
Second thing is, do not let them dry out complete. If you don't use printer, just print at least 1 page a month Nossels will be blocked and may not work proper.
If cartriges are empty for over a month, there won't be performance Guarantee.
**Take your printer with you at refiller and make a deal, if works 100% will pay full cost, or just 25% material cost only.
(Untill 2 refilles, they will perform same as new or at least 80-90% performance)
PS:If you buy new then you can still sell your used one to refiller, they can pay $5-15 depend on cartriges.

Meeting people is easy. Having meaningful connections is the hard part.
There's a chinese store in Golden Square Centre on 1300 Central Parkway West, Mississauga, where I got new cartridges for Brother Printer @ $1.99 each. Works fine. Most of the times you will find a Chinese lady with a toddler manning the store. I don't remember the name of that store, but it wouldn't be too hard to find!! Very nice lady.

Check out this website. I use it for getting toner cartridges. Very good prices and fast delivery.

thanks All, these are valuable suggestions for sure...
Vagg : I used the website to order the combo of catridges. average cost is coming to be around 12 CAD per catr. much better than the 30 cads if i buy from other stores.
samjo : that will be my next try when i am done with these, kind of got lazy this time to go and search for the store ;-), thanks.
Guys
I am speaking out of experience , after all the fingers and toes burnt , here is my suggestion :
Go for a cheap 30$ HP deskjet 1000 printer each time your catridges are finished. yes it is slow, not wireless but is perfect for home printing.
I had hi fi lexmark prospect 205 copier scanner faxer printer and may be more things promised which i never used. once initial catridges were burnt out i purchased another set of catridges which are supposidly legally wed to this printer, costing same as that of printer, bought them like a moron ..those got finished in half of the expected printing.. then I went for gray mkt to spend another 50$ (123inkcatridges.com ) which i could not fit to my printer as it started honking printhead error... in desparation (print outs needed next day) I went to 24 hrs walmart and bought this 30$ basic model of printer , worked perfectly fine and hopefully will give more service before i place it in the recycling bin.
All in all for home printing , I'll be using my lexmark for the wirelessly scanning and generating pdfs and for the hard prints use cheap deskjet. Will be throwing away the hp deskjet 1000 and buying new each time the catridges exhausted. No more chinese tricks :-).
Not to mention the time and tension got wasted in the whole game.
My experience with HP has not been very good. The inkjet has high consumption with cartridge finishing very fast.
After reading lots of forums I came to the conclusion that Brother laser is the most economical. I had never used Brother before and wasn't confident when I bought it. But it turned out that the forums were right - very economical and great quality. It is a miser in toner consumption. Will buy Brother again if I hv to.
I bought a toner cartridge from the same place the previous poster referred to - 123cartridges. It was a refilled cartridge and has been running great for the last 6 mo. Quick service too from 123.
