we all need to get together for this everybody wants their parents to be here fast..but they are taking way too long

me too.....I applied for my parents in March-2008 and nothing received accept confirmation letter on initial stage...........now wait and wait forever.......

The immigration / citizenship process sucks - 24+ months to get citizenship these days..I heard spousal applications are also taken very long times...

Today the obvious reason for the delay in parental PR is to protect our health care system which needs influx of younger population to support the ageing population.
I hope that the cic comes up with a pay based unique solution that requires the sponsor to pay (e.g. 500$ per person per month for rest of their lives like US does through medicare) towards health care of their parents and process the PR in that category in 6 months.
This will allow for family reunification and also mitigate the common complaint of the local population against immigration of parents.
Canada will be starting a 10 year visitor visa shortly to help people who like to visit every year.
