Not sure about Vancouver but GTA is a better paying and a more 'brisk' market , though not close to the US in terms of job changing opportunities .
Getting a nanny should take 2-3 months and 1500 pm is all inclusive ... Basically you sponsor through an Agency and do not have any obligation of sustaining her .. Yes that s a live in option ...
For IT folks , most of the planet is a breeze , so is Canada ... Ask TK ... He always comments 'for all other than IT ' ....

It's always good to know the negatives. I do have a job offer and in a field where there will be work albeit without spectacular rates, but always important to know what happens when the tide turns.
I hope, this offer too, does not meet an end like my US H1B (which I got stamped and didn't go coz Lehmann scared me) and couple of offers in EU 'coz my wife didn't have a chance of finding a job without knowing the local language (as a dependent).
IT still can take people places but isn't a novelty anymore.

I'm getting into a special situation. We were trying to obtain a transfer for my wife to her Vancouver office. But they said it's not possible but there were some open positions in Seattle (and more in California). It's not sure if they can sponsor US visa.
Here is my question: is it possible to reside in Vancouver and work for Seattle office (legally) as my dependent in Canada? This is assuming they will agree to sponsor her H1 / L1 (slim chance though!). Will it have problems while crossing the border regularly if she must visit Seattle a few times a month?
In general, can a dependent work for a US company from Canada without the company having a branch in Canada (though they have in this case - but thinking of other options)? Does company have to pay any taxes in Canada? Or something like sole-proprietorship + get hired by US company, is that model fine?

The good option in your situation is your wife's company agreeing for her to work from home while employed in India or later employed with seattle company.
In my view a US co. cannot offer your wife a job without she having a status in US (L1, H1 TN etc.). They will have to offer and then sponsor for visa.
After having a status in US, A person can work from Canada home for a US company ( I did it ) and salary can drop in US bank, but you need to declare the earnings while filing Canada taxes plus file US taxes.
Travelling to and fro daily or weekly to US will not be a problem but I am wondering why you want to spoil your family life ? For savings I suppose.
Best option for you is she leaves everything and travel along with you and finds a comfort giving job in Vanc. In any case you wont find nanny or day care from first day onwards , there will be some settling period at home with 2 kids. Think of that.
From your last two posts it is clear you are not a risk taker and highly calculative. Hope you know families having single bread earner leave their job back home to move to US/UK/Canada/Aus and make their livings from scratch and Here you are , cursing your life just bcs you have too many options with you ! With that safe play attitude , India is best suited for you.
Western world will look 'cruel' to you from the angle you see the life. My honest opinion.

Savings is not a concern to begin with, but I'm trying to find out the possibilities. I think I can cover my family for about three years abroad even without a job.

Thank you. Yes, I had thought about it, and now according to my wife's company policies, she is eligible for a six-month unpaid sabbatical. That's an option I was thinking of.

Yes, I am risk-averse, and for a reason: to minimize the pain of things going bad for my family. And I'm not cursing myself at all. In fact, I am happy to be in a situation of having options rather than having forced to accept something. And, I had started my life in India from penny zero too.

I have lived in Europe for about two years (3 long stays, and multiple visits) as a bachelor. So, I kind of know what the life is like outside India. But, moving out for ever - it's a new challenge. And the major reason for the move is to have a better life (health, time for ourselves, basic infrastructure: in that order) for my self and the family.
Savings: knowing how India is being transformed (getting expensive everyday without a social welfare safety-net), if at all there comes a situation for me to hop back, I do not want to be in a situation of being broke. Esp when I have parents and kids to look after. But even if the savings come just to about on par with what I can save now in India, I'm fine (I'm not thinking 2x, 3x etc even in the longer run).
San-hugo, I do get the point you are making and thank you for being forthright. And what you term as "playing safe" is my way of ensuring I work extra-hard now rather than falling by the way side later.

All I know is, with your kind of skills and experience, you will not fall anywhere you go (seemingly I have more confidence in your skills than you yourself 
, perhaps I know the reason behind my confidence :-)).
In my view most important decision for you is whether to move to other country or not, rest is secondary , secondary at least in your case since you have a good job lined up.
and for sure my way of looking at such option is different than yours , despite saving 35k a year currently you are thinking of possibility of growing broke in coming years.. I wish Americans had that attitude, world would have been saved from current economic blues.
Do one thing , compare Bangalore with Vancouver, huh ! you will get all answers.
If I'll be you, I'll enjoy every moment of the dilemma ! :-))).

Ha ha ha. But is 35k a year (starting this year. Increments in India can be 15-20% at times, but not after you reach a certain stage) SO much?!
Growing broke thing is only if I get laid off for a couple of years.
