Dear All,

This might have been asked 1000 times but i still ask for your humble opinion. Please don't mind. We've applied for PR 7 yrs back, hoping we get it soon now.family of 4.

How is the present economic situation in Canada on a day to basis ? I mean how is it affecting you ? inflation ? I'm talking about the debt situation in Europe, recession in US, Canada and other countries, all other factors etc. Finally how will it affect or is affecting Canadians and could affect prospective immigrants...? What is the future for you in Canada as per your own understanding ? Is it good, very good, ok or bad ?

The reason i'm asking...Living in India especially Mumbai has its own perils. We read about crime increasing in the papers everyday. New scams and corrupt games being played by political parties we read everyday. The population is exploding and resources are few. We all hope for a better future but it doesn't look coming. We feel living in India we're secured from the worlds problems, but is it the truth ? India has growth, India has potential, India has the youth but does India has a vision for the future ? I don't know. The people ruling India certainly don't show it. Everyone is only concerned with making money even at the cost of raping the motherland for resources as it has happened in Bellary, Karnataka. corruption everywhere. reservation, mindless competition...it all looks so hopeless. What is the future for our children ?

So friends, please tell me. Do you think migrating to Canada makes sense ? or does staying in India and hoping for the best make sense ? Honest opinions please.

I'm sorry I can't say what makes the most sense for your family. Canada is affected by the current international financial situation, but not as much as some places like Europe.

Unemployment is relatively high and newcomers have a more difficult time finding employment that Canadian-born people. If you are planning to move here make sure to have your credentials assessed before you move. Recgonize that the English skills and professional qualifications required to gain permanent resident status are ones set by the government, but that private businesses have different standards and you may not meet them just because you meet the government's. Do industry specific research to see how your profession is faring right now. Know that many immigrants work in survival jobs when they move here, and some are stuck in those jobs for a long time.

It's a big country and there is a lot of regional variation. If you're planning on moving to northern Alberta or suburban Toronto, the situation will be very different.

We're also exploiting our country's natural resources, so that is an issue India and Canada have in common. Over-population and crowding are not large concerns here, but most newcomers move to the same few urban areas (Toronto, Vancouver, Montreal, Calgary) and these areas are becoming crowded and are more expensive than some other areas. On the other had they tend to have better employment opportunities.

It is not an easy call, but boils down to your own priorities in life.

The issues you mention in India around corruption, decline of resources, competition and ultimately a lack of a structured vision for a progressive nation are facts and I don't see how this will improve over time as the population skyrockets. My opinion is it will get worse. But hey, the economy seems to be going great guns and a lot of people are getting very rich. To them, the overall picture does not really matter - they are happy in their own reality. This is learned behavior over generations - the prime example I have observed is how immaculately clean people keep their apartments/houses, but as soon as you step out, there's a mess and this is somebody else's problem, not theirs.

Over here, some of the same issues of corruption, decline of resources etc. exist, however the scale is completely different. There is still a lot of structure to how things happen, law and order generally prevails. Life is much less stressful overall, I feel. However all of this against the backdrop of a weak economic outlook. Jobs are harder to come by and in this economic environment, I'm assuming it would not be easy for a newcomer to settle (especially coming from a country where the economy is going great guns).

So the question is, are you willing to risk your current financial stability and growth (I'm assuming) for a better overall picture? You may have to struggle initially but generally speaking, you'll do ok after a while - this is the experience of most folks here. There are, of course exceptions, some who do great from their first month here and some how don't do well after years of trying. On average though, most immigrants are able to buy houses and get by reasonably within 3 yrs. or so. What you don't have is a red-hot economy that will propel you to your first million a few months after you arrive, the kind of economy that India has right now (or at least the perception projected in the media).

When you sum it all up, my opinion is Canada is still a far better place at least in the forseeable future, however that opinion is constructed by my preferences. As you'll see in a number of posts to follow, not everyone will agree :-).

Good luck, in whatever you decide!

What do you work as currently in India , your age & qualifications could help you elicit better response . Please share .

Largely speaking India will continue to outgrow Canada in years to come in economic turns (relative growth ) but life in India comes with banes that you have mentioned .

In Canada though infrastructure and law as well as freedom is great , most immigrants face tough initial years ...

That being said a basic life such as an apartment , a car etc in a pollution free clean living environment is almost guaranteed .

Your success in Canada depends on your skills, soft as well professional.

You said you applied 7 years back , I heard those category of applicants will not be considered before 2013. Many 2004 -2008 applicants from India got that information in letter by CIC. Hope you are aware.

In one simple sentence, my experience is as follows:

In India, Job is not an issue and most of the other things are issues
While in Canada, Other things (except Weather) are not issues but Job is the main issue

(presuming good educated immigrant with well paid job is migrating to canada on point system)
(other things means power, water, corruption, red tapism, crime, reservation system, population, civic amenities, accountability etc.)

Some times I used to feel, when main thing good Job is there, the other issues are not that much bothering or they can be adjustable

So you are the better judge to decide!!!!!
