Hello everyone,
Recently my spouse sponsored me, and my PR application is in the process stage.
During this time, if I claim EI benefits, will be there any issue in the process.
Appreciate your responses.
Thanks
How you can claim EI benefits without becoming PR
If you are talking about your wife, as long as she does not go to Welfare ..... things can be managed.
Thanks for the reply. I came to know even non-residents can claim.
I want to double check before applying.
Eligibility for Canadian Employment Insurance
Employment Insurance (EI) provides temporary income support during periods of unemployment. Temporary foreign workers must meet the same eligibility requirements as Canadian citizens and permanent residents. Five types of benefits are available

Apparently it is true.. temp foreign workers can get EI and can stay on in country till Work permit expires...
I guess once work permit expires or legal status becomes invalid , EI also stops for the person..

It's free loaders like this who want to claim EI even before they come here that costs us taxpayers, imagine once they get here.
You canot claim EI unless you need the requirement. If she/he meets the requirements, then EI is given. So what is the big hue and cry about?
Even for welfare, you need to be a destitute. So many Desi immigrants donot claim it.
You need some sort of social benefits for living at - 10 deg. cold and that is what is given in the form of Safehouses, Food banks etc..
Peace
