I have a question about EI during parental leave.
Assuming I have a health coverage for myself and the family, would my wife (who is employed full time) have any concern in getting the EI during her parental leave.

My wife has already opted out of the health benefits from her company as we didn't want to pay from both the companies.
Are EI & health benefits related anyway, as EI is state sponsored.

Hello JRF
it depends on the company your wife works for...for my wife her company had asked pre authorized payments for every month if she wants to stay with her health benefits or simply stay on my benefits as I had her covered too...its only that you cannot cover 100% medical bills by claiming each other insurance companies but still works out well if your health coverage is good...

Health insurance (benefits) is partly payed by you and partly by your employer and it is through a private insurance company and whoever are enrolled are covered. It has nothing to do with EI.

Thanks Raj.
Its my health insurance that would cover my wife and the new born. And it is the state that should cover the EI for my wife during her parental leave (while I would be continuing to work full time). Now it opens more question about the Short Term Disability.
Who covers the short term disability for a duration like 6-8 weeks. Is it the state or health insurance provider. My assumption is that upon the Doctor's note, the state covers the short term disability, not the insurance provider. Am I correct.
I will have a talk with my benefits administrator tomorrow. And Googling now..
