How much does it cost to rent a car for few days. I am not asking for leasing a car for years/months; but renting a car off-airport for few days. I guess it depends on location and type of car. I am looking for a simple economic car for two passengers .
I have personal car insurance but it does not cover rentals. Do I need to have an insurance covering collision/damage waiver and liability.Do I have to be careful about the fee for extra features like GPS?
What other sales tricks I should be careful about as I am new to hiring a car.
Its around $30 or so per day for a regular car .
weekdays may be a little more .
sometimes your Credit card will cover the Collision ( call them to find out ) .
you can actullay research the prices online through expedia etc .

It is unlimited mileage or some of them give around 200 Km ( please verify ) .
and the sites mentioned by ashedfc are good for US car rentals ( not sure if they have good prices for canada ) .

Your destination city name would help fellow CDs to reply better answer. Weekly rental rates are 20-30% lower than daily rates. There are some loops every where, you can't escape all. Example $30 per day rent + Insurance coverage $10-20 day + fuel surcharges $2-5/day + service taxes. In short actual payment could be double than advertised rental price. GPS rent fee $3-5, plus transponder fee if you are willing to use Toll highway like Hwy 407.
Must visual check fuel guage level and outer paint or body damages before renting (signing document) the car. If car is not cleaned proper you can ask for washed or cleaned car.
Must confirm drop off/car return time, or charges will apply for 1 more day if you are late for hour or two. Just like a hotel check out hours.
