Drove straight thru lewiston bridge where all the Desi's were pulled out and checked for fruits, rice, vegetables and other items. We were told that if anything was found it would attract a $350 fine.

It was a small Gujarati Sammelan. Most of the Desi's pulled up were Gujjus.

I think they will fine only when you do not declare and are caught. They usually ask at border if you are carrying any food items.

VM,
Nice tips / thread.
Since many of India bashing people seem to love this thread, would request you to add more of your experiences (like your dealings with desi's in Orlando, in gas stations etc..) in this thread.
A very useful one.
If people like it, I can also add my experience of Chennai, Trichy etc....

Peace

Hi Vandematramu,
Nice to see your trip details down to orlando..
i am planing as well but choose not to drive for almost 4 days RT.
Tracking the fligths from IAG to FLL and rent a car which comes to the same price of the road trip (gas, food, accommodation).

Anyways, please share your rest of your trip details..such as how many days of disney, universal, seaworld and is it worth to go for Kennedy space centre in normal days...
Purchasing the tickets at gate vs. advance purchases thru online...

Last but not least, food, accomdataion tips near the theme parks...

Looking forward...

We have been to Orlando many times and never chose to drive - it is simply not worth it.
I am curious why you are looking for flights between IAG and FLL, instead of direct between YYZ (Pearson) and MCO (Orlando).
The deals are best out of these busy airports, instead of the smaller ones.
You have a wider choice of carriers and better time ranges.
You can choose to fly early morning or late night to get a better deal.

You should plan at least 1 full day at each of the Parks.
Allow for at least 1 day off every 2 or 3 days because it gets very tiring.
Each park has its peak days and off peak days.
For instance, Magic Kingdom peaks between Friday and over the weekend (for obvious reasons).
You could work around the peak days for each park, for instance, start with the Hollywood Studios first and hit Magic Kingdom mid-week.
You could also plan as per the Extended Hrs. at each park (if you are staying within Disney).
There are many strategies...it requires a bit of patient research.

I am divided about Sea World.
We used to really enjoy Sea World many years ago, and even had an annual pass for Sea World 2002 - 2003.
However, in recent years, it seems to be quite run down, esp. compared to the Disney Parks.
The rides are dated and the quality of experience has gone down.
It seems they have fallen behind the times.

But, it's still cheaper than Disney and if you have a lighter day in between, you can go.

Absolutely !

For the most part, there is no difference in price.
You may get a slightly better deal sometimes online, but not much.
Disney Park ticket prices are pretty much fixed.
The only way to score discounted or free tickets is through those time-share or MLM presentations.

Lots and lots of hotels, resorts, etc. throughout that area.
You will have no trouble finding accommodation in any range...from $30 a night to $300 a night, take your pick.

Food options outside the parks again are huge...every kind of imaginable restaurant, chain, cuisine is there.

Inside the parks, you don't have much options.
You can't carry outside food into any of the parks.
You have to make do with the fast food that is available inside the parks.
You can carry snack, though, such as Granola bars.

Given how vast these parks are, and how much is there to see & do, you will have very little time or patience to eat.

Good luck !
