Interesting. Is Facebook heading towards Myspace way? Facebook stock has already tanked by 30%. Their IPO is under investigation.

Issue is of having an alternative, there is none for the time, FB has collected so much of world data, it will take years for some other venture to over take it ... with passing time, FB will lose business and traffic for sure but will linger around for long time till a new wave starts.

The odds are against them, given the past performance of similar sites.

That said, I would not write them off into obscurity just yet. What is missing is a viable revenue model. If they can tap into their vast resources and come up with a good revenue model that does not tick off their users, they have a good chance of competing and growing. Look at how google has evolved from being a search company to a platform/ecosystem. That's where the money is nowadays and FB has potential with their huge userbase.

Their recent forays have been missteps, that's for sure. The IPO was very poorly done...
