I am an indian who is settled in the Gulf for the past 30+ years.

recently, we have received a call from CIC that our immigration has been approved and we are planning to land at the end of 2012.

I want to ask some simple questions.. please do reply and guide.

1. I have 8 children, 4 girls and 4 boys
2. only 2 boys are above 18, rest of the 6 children are below 15.

can you please tell, in which area outside/inside toronto we can get a cheap/economical 4-5 bedroom flat.
------

You can find 2-3BR condos for 1200+ or alternatively 4-5BR house for 1600+ (utilities extra). I suggest take TTC map of bus and underground subway service (from ttc.ca) and look for houses near stations. use mls.ca or other rental websites. You or other members in family will not have vehicle , so this will be kind of important to stay near public transit stations.

***
also, we all will be permanent residents, can the mother apply for Child Tax benefit ?
also, since we will be newly landed immigrants and no income earned, do we need to file for TAX return ? in order to apply for child tax benefit ?
please note that the mother will not be doing a job initially.
------
Yes, mother should apply. You need not file tax return immediately, that will be done for oyu next year in april. For CCTB/UCCB , fill in form, where declare world income in USD for last 2 years. Since your income comes to abt 25k , you will be fine to avail benefits.

I suggest you must fill in direct deposit forms after opening a bank account on your wife's name so that benefits are remitted directly into the bank.
***

please guide as we I will be looking for a job after landing and we want to benefit from the child benefits as well.
----
What is your professional stream ?

I hope you should have done calculations before saying that ! Countries are not made with that thought process..

The family is bringing in years of savings with them and 10 consumers for local businesses.
With one stroke of approval, There is potential of (8 x 50+ 15) = 415 years of combined tax payment brought into the country. I am counting 50 yrs each tax payment in future by the kids before they start to earn pension and i am sure there are 15 yrs of career left for OP. Kids now a days start work when they are around 16 and continue to work till old age.

The average age of OP's family if you count will be half of your own family. it is comparatively a young family coming to Canada which is the requirements as of today. The population in range of 60-80yrs is growing fast in Canada who are consumers of health care as well pension services. So you know who are the lutere and who will be the victim ?

I am assuming that your child tax benefits/HST credit will be around $ 2000 a month. You can use it to have a easy life.
Just tell that your world income is around $ 35000 or less and not more than that. Otherwise your child tax benefit /HST credit will become almost Zero,
Your 2 children above 18 can get govt. loans and study and thus you will not have to spend a dime on their education.
Peace

You have to pay back loans TK

MR, You are very diplomatic ;)

TK Dude.... From the sounds of your post, it seems like you're still in Canada - "Donot expect to get a easy job here in Canada" May be you need to put a footer in your post (along with your number of post) which states that you left Canada in 2011, and even a reason why you left

Yes, as you mentioned on the first page, you have to come back (or maintain Canadian citizenship) to enjoy your retirement/old age pension
TK, since you have left Canada I noticed the quality of your posts on CD have been degraded. Not sure if this is just my opinion or other members also feel so.

I agree with you.. I am not against people using CTB or other benefits given by Canadian govt. OP can apply for CTB after he migrates to Canada BUT as an immigrant they must bring at least 10K initial settlement funds with them and use that fund instead of relying on CTB. I am just against people misusing it. I have seen Lankans got refugee status, working in cash (not tax) living in subcidized apartment, enjoying welfare funds, EI etc etc.. and still they bring their family members to Canada faster than me who had faced extreme times getting Canadian PR (as a skilled worker) and whose parents sponsorship file is still in long line.
I have also seen families from Middle East where wife lives in Canada enjoys all benefits as a single parent and husband works in Middle East paying zero tax.
I have seen Somalis doing the same.. I am not saying Indians do do it either.

>>> apartments are at the most 3 bedroom and your family is 8 in size. So it would not be possible . Get townhouse with 3 bedroom and a full basement and it will cost you about $2300-3000.

also, we all will be permanent residents, can the mother apply for Child Tax benefit ?
>>> She can apply from day one and will get for 6 children and it would be around $2000.

also, since we will be newly landed immigrants and no income earned, do we need to file for TAX return ? in order to apply for child tax benefit ?
please note that the mother will not be doing a job initially.
>>> CTB can be applied without filing tax return
