Hi Folks,
We are relocating from Toronto to Fort McMurray in a month or so. We need some ideas/suggestions, on how to move.
1. We want to take our car from Toronto and we don't want to drive there (it takes four days). Similarly we want to move household items, we have already reduced some furniture and other things but we still have kitchen and other smaller essential things. We need some recommendations for a good mover for our car and household stuff.
2. We also looking for other things once we reach there, such as internet, cable tv and wireless services, with a provider for these three at a reasonable price and good coverage.
3. Indian grocery is not readily available in Fort Mac. Thus it seems I would have to take spices and basic Indian cooking essentials from Toronto or be prepared to go to Edmonton to get this stuff.
4. We want to know about other Indian families in the area.
5. We want to know what other things we should consider.
Thanks in Advance for your comments and suggestions.
Welcome to Freezer ..
2. You can check with telus , recently I subscribe its service . It costs me $105 for phone with india unlimited call +internet+indian channels
3.Indian grocery is available and you can find most of items but it is costly better you bring it from Toro
4. There are lots of Indians here
5. Consider to stay in extreme cold for 6 months , no entertainment , no genuine indian restaurant , everything is costly here than toro.. , If you need to travel to India be ready to change atleast 3-4 flights to reach your destination , house rent is very high even for basement you have to pay $2000
BUT there is good money here even in wall mart minimum pay is $14-15

Thanks for the reply DSD.
I will check with Telus.
Groceries I understand, I would have to go to Edmonton.
Enough Indians? probably.
Cold weather, like living in a freezer, I can handle that.
But I really need to know about reaching Fort McMurray. I have only flown in to the place, and now I am thinking of driving there. I realize its winter and cold, but is it safe to drive? I want to take my car there and not have worry about transportation in Fort Mac.
The other option was to send my car via some sort of shipping service.
I am not sure which is better - I need some advice.
thanks
I know one of my friend moved from here to Manitoba and he used services of a company they transported his car and belongings to Manitoba. I can ask him for the person's contact details if you want.

Yes You can drive from Toro to FM . Just to consider about weather condition . If it is clear weather you can drive it . For alberta road condition you can check on https://www.amaroadreports.ca/

If I were in your place sure I had drive through Toro to FM . It may be cheap / hazzle free and you can enjoy the long long drive . Only worry is weather condition . You have to make sure about weather and road condition .
thanks

If you decide to drive the car, You can think of 'hittheroad'. These guys will drive your car. You can fill your car with luggage and they will get a driver. You can ask them for Edmonton delivery. I got this link from other travel forums. Not personal exp.
