Hi CD's
At-last, after 7 months of getting our visas we landed in Toronto on Feb 21st .
No questions at the Immigration or customs.
The immigration officer didn't ask for the PR card application or our photos - will that be a problem? We gave our relatives address to him for contact. Should I give some photos to my relative so that he can post them if they ask?
In the customs, the guy was happy with the Goods to follow list, didn't check the bags just let us through.
As we came out of the airport we were hit with freezing air, but as the ride went by we could see the sun shining on us. Checked into the hotel and slept and slept and slept.....
Weekends went by at our relatives place.
Monday we took the city sightseeing tour and saw casa loma, cn tower on tuesday.
Its snowing so much today so stuck in the hotel. Getting back to India tomorrow, hopefully our flight wont be canceled or delayed.
Overall, very nice experience. My husband and daughter like it very much here.
Keeping my fingers crossed for my husband's US visa, if that doesn't work out will be back to Canada in July/Sept.
Congrats for landing ... and glad to know that the experience has been good !!
There s no harm in leaving some pictures @ your relatives which they might use if needed ... Don't they take a picture for PR Card at the Airport these days ?
What did you do for funds - I recall you had a query and assuming all went fine @ Customs ....
In case there s any query feel free to ask today .. You are leaving quite early .>Such a long journey deserved a week of sightseeing ... But July - Aug would definitely be much better ..
All the very best !!

They didn't take any pictures. I too didn't ask anything, i was just praying that everything should go well.
For PoF we brought some cash, travel card & DD. But, they didn't ask us anything at all! Couple in the next booth was questioned a lot even about their qualifications and stuff but nothing at all for us, there is definitely an advantage of having a kid along
Yes, leaving very early. Thought of visiting ROM & St Lawrence market today but the weather god wanted us to stay put at the hotel
You can try some mall in your area .... Eaton Center in Toronto or Square One is Mississauga .Weather Gods spare the malls ...... Dollarma / Dollar Tree Stores can be a good spot to buy some inexpensive souveniers ... Browse if you have one in your vicinity ...And don't leave w/o have a Pizza @ your nearby Pizza Pizza ....
Take care ..

PR card application gets automatically filed on landing. The same photos are used which are sent along with either medicals or during passport submission for visa. so no photos are clicked at airport.
It may not happen with you , Still it was a good idea to have photos clicked as per specs and left with relatives, photos is the major reason of application resubmission. One of my friend delayed in sending his photos after first set was rejected (they give around 45 days to resubmit). He got lettter recently that his pr card application file is closed. His dependents can travel to Canada but not him. he is stuck in US. Next month he is experimenting with driving in own vehicle till border with landing papers and try to enter and attend an interview.
Hi CDs,
Unfortunately H1B didn't work out.
Hence, my husband would be back in Canada in June/July. I and my daughter would follow once he gets settled.
Our relative has said that he will find some part-time job. Since my husband is in IT i hope he gets an entry level in 2-3 months.
We received our PR cards except my daughters. They have requested for new photos with the date taken on the backside of the photo.
Any idea how long it takes for the PR card to come after they receive the photos?
Situation not what we expected but hopefully everything will be good in another 6 months(fingers crossed).
Lalitha,
We warned you not to make hasty / uninformed decisions like immigrating to Canada, but you choose to ignore it. I even spoke personally to you, but you were thinking that Canada is el-dorodo (City of Gold).,
With the recession, Canada has turned pretty bad. Luckily IT is one of the professions which still had some openings (in 2011).
All the best to you.
Peace by Murali
