After I finshed my second career SAP ERP program, my EI was about to end. I was looking for a job. At this time, it was the end of the recession of 2009. Companies were hiring selectively. Also I have around 6.5 years of Cdn experience at that time.

so MURALI you basically had 6.5 years of experience before you started cheating and lying on your resumes..... how the heck did you get the first job where you worked for 6.5 years ???

You probably left the first job to use the CANADA's second career option (thank god to me for paying tax for that year) so that you can use all the tax money which you paid in those 6.5 years. What a thinking !!!!!

For your kind information I am not in IT or Finance...I am a mechanical engineer working happily since 8 years along with all my friends in mechanical/electrical & construction field. I guess the thinking depends on what kind of group you select for yourself to hangout with...

I hope any Canadians don't read such posts from people like you... otherwise all our Indians who are basically working hard and effectively will have to suffer. After reading such post they are going to change their thinking of how we Indians are..... SHAME !!!

On the positive side it won't effect you as you are sitting back in India

People please don’t lie on your resumes….because if you do, the company is going to find it sooner or later & not only will give you pink slips (if you are lucky instead of getting fired), they will stop hiring other honest and hardworking desis… It will effect our Indian community in Canada.

If they kick you out after finding that you lie, you can get ONE another job elsewhere (if you are lucky as I mentioned,) as the companies don’t call for references to anybody in the company which you worked last/presently working but will definitely call the company for which you previously worked. So you can basically find one job after being kicked out but if you want to leave this job in the future it will be a big problem as the future company is going to call for reference in the old companies and not to mention if its in the same field, they might have some good contacts too…

so please don’t follow such advice and AGAIN... no wonder Murali you are back to India

Hmm...so you put on your resume you were born and brought up here. And whoever interviewed you (and worked with you subsequently) bought this, no questions asked (accent, mannerisms notwithstanding). If true, I'd say they deserved it.

People choose different ways of going through life, job search included. The "lie if you're sure you won't get caught" approach is what creates corrupt societies like India, where almost EVERY thing is under the corruption umbrella. Thankfully, that kind of thinking is still not mainstream here in Canada (at least not yet).

There is a perfectly ethical way of talking up your experience, it is very much about presentation. Requires thought, experience, research and creativity. I know some people get jobs by lying, but stellar careers are built through positive traits. Ask for help, you've already got some very mature advice and offer of help from Dimple here. Speaking of which, you might find the following video interesting...

Believe it or not, they bought it. At least that I did high school and college here.
Some people in that office (Cubans, Latino;s) - their parents- came to Canada by boat and still they had an accent and their English was not as good as mine.

To CAN DE,
I started in 2002 for $ 8 an hour. The employer who hired me was a dumbo. Instead of giving $ 20 to one good Canadian (educated, white), he hired 4 immigrants (me, Iranian and 2 Chinese) thinking that we can do 3 X what the native can do. I was medium, Iranian was good and the Chinese was very bad. In the end, we messed up his office and the employer also has to do some of our work.
I stayed back for 6.5 years, working 6-7 days a week (on annual salary with no overtime) to show my appreciation. During the 6.5 years I would have got some 6 interview calls (I was applying to only Architect offices). That was very bad. That is why one desi advised me to try like this and it worked.
Anyways, everyone has their own idea.
Just follow your dreams and don't blame Canada or your color for your decisions

Yeah, making 20 bucks an hour and lying on your resume is surely "following your dreams".

Lots of good thoughts... thanks everybody... presentation would be the key and I will concentrate on it.
After dimples's help am polishing my resume and hope it turns out good to get short-listed. However I cant update my address yet as am still looking out. Talk is that Scarborough on resume isn't good!!! So, it would take another month to finalise residence and start applying. Meanwhile, am planning to register with PEO.
I do want to share some info - one of my past colleagues landed in Windsor in May and got a job in a week with a automotive parts supplier! Another acquaintance from a workshop landed in August and has been getting a lot of interview calls and missed out on a job because it was given to an ex-employee. All these jobs pay around 25-30/hr. Looks like there are lots of opportunities around if you know your way and with the help from CD's am sure I will reach the light at the end of the tunnel!

Windsor, for all its scourge, has been improving, slowly but steadily. A number of opportunities exist at Tier 1, 2.... suppliers and not at OEMs. A number of suppliers are located on the eastern edge of the greater Windsor and this certainly has hurt poor communities living in Windsor due to lack of transportation.

Windsor is heavily dependant on Detroit and other mfg companies and since Detroit has shown significant growth in opportunities, Windsor is gaining from it.

To Lalitha - if the ambience of a work environment (keeping yourself busy away from home) is important for you more than a certain level of income range, you could consider a lower rate of pay (at $20 to $30), earn your reputation and work your way up. It will also give you time to feel around what it is to work in a Cdn company. However, be careful not to accept 'anything' as you may get stuck without career progress.
