Hi CDs
Need help again.
My brother has a 2 year multiple entry visitor visa to Canada which is expiring in Jan 2015 on his Indian passport. He has visited once in year 2013. He is planning another visit in August 2014. Problem is that his passport is expiring in Feb 2015. He is planning to get a new Indian passport. Question is that if he does that, would his Canadian multiple entry visa is still valid? Has anyone had any experience on this, i.e. using a new Indian passport and used old passport to show the multiple entry visa?
If he does not apply for new passport, he may not get entry into Canada, usually the entry visa is for 6 months and it is mentioned on CIC website that passport has to be valid for next 6 months for an entry.
Who should I call to get a final word on this here in Canada? CBSA (canada border security) or CIC? Canadian Embassy in New Delhi does not transfer the visa to new passports (already checked). They did not provide any other information.
Thanks in advance. Always get the best information from here.
MJ
He can obtain a new passport, travel with both new and old, and enter Canada using the valid visa in the old passport.

Hi Dimple2001
Thanks for the information. It is very helpful. I also called CIC just in case, and they confirmed what you said. Here is an email from CIC

Sir, Madam,
Thank you for contacting Citizenship and Immigration Canada. I am pleased to follow up on your request:
Valid Temporary Resident Visa in Expired Passport
If an expired passport contains a valid Temporary Resident Visa (TRV), the entry visa can still be used. The expiration of the passport has no effect on the visa's validity and you may continue to use the TRV until the date it expires, even if it is in an expired passport. When seeking entry into Canada, you can present both the renewed passport and expired one containing the valid entry visa.
For more information on Port of Entry Examinations, please see the Operational Manual Enforcement (ENF 4, section 13.15).
