Info:
* My daughter is PIO holder (valid till 2027).
* Her Canadian PP expires in 03/2015.
* We (parents) are now eligible for OCI.
Advice needed on below mentioned options:
Option # 1 Apply for daughter’s OCI along with parents
Fees
OCI = $156.50
Next year for OCI renewal (as her pp expires in 2015)= $30. I am not sure on renewal fees
Option # 2 : Apply for OCI for after getting Canadian Passport renewed in 2015. Benefit is that I don’t have to pay her OCI fees right now. However I am not sure on paper work when I have to apply for her OCI independently
Any other option?
Any response will be highly appreciated
Option 1 is preferable since they will ask for parents' documents all over again when applying separately. In regards to placement of new OCI sticker on the new passport, there are mixed signals. A number of travelers have not experienced any issues not having a fresh sticker on the new passport. All they needed was the OCI booklet, old passport with the OCI sticker and the new passport.
Obtaining a new OCI sticker on the new passport is an exercise in pain as I just recently experienced, especially with the incompetent fools called the BLS.
Other option is to let her continue on PIO status.

Unless you have any specific reason to convert your daughter's status from PIO to OCI, Dimple's option to let her continue on the PIO status is the best one.
It is better to keep your dealings with the Indian consulates / BLS to minimum.
I would second with Cdn-Dude.
In India, PIO card holders (until age 16) are dealt with the same laws as per OCI, i.e. no need of registration to the nearby Foreigner's office. So it makes no difference if your are a PIO card holder or a OCI Holder until age 16.
Who knows. in the future, may be all this PIO to OCI conversion can be done online or a completely diiferent system comes to place.
Donot fix it unless it is broke.
