Hello everybody,

I shall be moving to Mississauga in the next couple of weeks and just thrilled about the forth coming travel to a great place like Toronto, Canada.

We would highly appreciate feedback from seniors / recently settled desis on the following points: ( i request updated info as answers from much previous years discussions such as in 2006 to 2010 would be not valid now)

1. I intend to catch a cab from YYZ and travel to my cousins place at Mississauga: what is the best option?? i land at noon time :-)))

2. which travel medical insurance I should be taking. We are a small family 2 adults + 1 kid. We want to place safe for the 3 months cover in which the insurance company backs us up if in case there is any medical care required

3. Also, how good are the schools for Burnhamthorpe / Living of Arts/ Webb Drive residents or should I seek another locality....pls advice. Kindly advice on school name also.

4. How is TD bank service & timings at Mississauga - square one mall area?? Do they provide lockers for all inclusive plan members??? Which branch is the safest to maintain a locker, if one is staying in square 1 mall area?

5. Finally, is it easy in moving into an unfurnished apartment, as i intend to buy the basic furniture and opt for an economical unfurnished 1+Den condo. I dont want to be a burden on any relative/friend, therefore on mls have already shortlisted a few places and hope to move into 1 within a week of landing. What is the rent I should go for with 1BR+living and open kitchen +enclosed Den (or a second Broom) + 1 parking + 1 locker - w/o hydro, furnishing, cable etc?

Kindly do take the time and provide your feedback

Bless you all and we pray luck shines on all of us, not forgetting the many who are sincerely waiting to come to this wonderful place.

Lets work hard and make our dreams come true....

oh, not again.
Please google yarr and find out.
Even you can use the search charcha option for the same.
Anyway, let me clarify :

1. Lot of taxi's / limo's come. Someone will lead you to it free of charge. Just tip the driver 10 % after you reach the destinati

2. may be ontario blue cross / manulife/ sunlife

3. Yup. That is a good location for school. Do not take any accomodation on the east side of Hwy 10.

4. TD bank is one of the best full service banks for ontario. take it.

5. Up to you. Depends on your budget and style of living. I would highly recommend the webb drive / living arts centre / east of square 1 apartments. You canot go wrong in it. They are one of the best but it will all come with a price. A price for safety, living with decent people, 24 hour CCTV security etc..

All the best.

Hi,

Please find basic idea of renting and school :-

Rental apartment /Schools

I live in square one in kaneff building ( Hurontario & Burnhamthrope )very good locality and good atmosphere,Buildings are neat and clean with all basic amenities. 1 Bedroom with drawing area will cost you 1200 $ per month including underground parking and all other utilities except Internet and cable.if you don't need parking then you can save 50$ per month.

As far as schools are concern Thornwood public school is very good school and most kids in these localities goes there. The biggest communities center of square one area is also near by.

Banks

You just missed out some good deal which was going on in TD,RBC,BMO and Tangerine they were offering I pad mini,Samsung tablet and Cash credit for new account opening with some condition but i think it was till 31 july 14 but still you can find whether they have extended this or not ???
I found all banks are good as i am operating with Scotia and CIBC.

If you need any further detail then do let me know.

All the best

We all helped HASNI here with his transportation, to reach his destination in Mississauga. I am sure you can do the same to your Cousins place. HEY, and you have lots of help, when you say Cousins, and they all are here to do the needful to get you in through their front door.

I will give you a small tip at the end of the posting to follow up. Also, here is my take. Most of the premia that you pay is tax deductible in your income tax. But you will find it is possible if the cost is over a 3% of your income. In short if it costs you a thousand dollars and if your initial salary is $30,000.00/Yr... YOU ARE PLUM OUT OF LUCK. No deductions in your tax. Also most of the Insurance policies have a deductible and they do not pay the first $200 and in some cases $500/$1000. Then again you are out of luck. Some of the dental section of the policies will provide the benefits in trickles, and it trickles in after 2 years. So, the first two years you will suffer.

In short, if you have excellent health and careful not to have an accident, then, you are O.K. for the first 90 days. After that the OHIP here in Ontrario kicks in. So, decide which way to go after you land here. Or get a coverage before you come down. I would prefer one from a Local Company, because we can nail them if they play mischief.

Most of us who land here, first look for an employer and then decide to move close by our work, or employment location. At that time look for schools close to the residence. But, if you have family here and you have decided upon a location close to the family, it will be wise to ask them first and then take it from there. This shifting is the killing part. Keep it to a minimum.

Since you are specific about TD, I will say go for it. As for the LOCKERS, a small one costs about $150 bucks or so/Yr. That is only if there are vacant ones available at that particular location. If none, then move over to any other bank that will provide you with one, preferably close to your home.

FOR FREE CHEQUING and other facilities, go for P.C.Banking. It might get three weeks to get the cheques, but who cares? Ask for a few over teh counter cheques to get started with.

You can do all of the search for all of this on their own website and drop them a question and get a response in the e-mail from them.

SHWOOSH.. I am glad that this is the last question and I also have one. Mmmm that comes later.
For 1 + Den, the low end will be $950 + Hydro etc., For the high end 1BR no den, will be about 1250 in most locations. 2BR about 1500 max, 1350 or an additional hundred for the next BR. It all depends upon the Floor Number in most Bldg. The higher you go the bigger is the rent.

Now to my question. : If you have no kids, then why you are inquiring about the SCHOOLS? And if there are no kids WHY 2BR? or a closed den?
You don't have to answer, but nice to know, as I was about to say drop some of the frills initially till you find a job and settle down.

FH.

I've looked at PBC, Manulife, Sunlife, Great West Life, Green Shield.
