TK, what makes you think, I would not have read PM ?
Lawyers are dime to dozen, that is why one needs reference.
Reference should come from someone reliable. Requesting reference on a public forum? Defeats the purpose. I would suggest you get reference from someone you know who has bought a house.
As regards an inspector - TK has a point about desi inspectors. I have also found that an inspector referred by the real estate agent - will try his best to push the deal through. They can gloss over the negatives.

And why cant people from forum be reliable ?
People from a public forum are usually strangers - and anonymous. I speak for myself when I say that I would ask for reference from someone whose credentials I can understand. So, if I was looking for a doctor - I would seek reference from someone who lived nearby and had kids and someone who I know.
I have the highest regard for members of his forum - and it is a place I seek advice regularly. But then - there is a difference between a reference and advice. Hope that helps!

Once you spend time on a forum, you tend to know the credibility and genuineness of person behind an id. Going by history of Id on forum, there are people over here who can be trusted for advices as well as references. This forum is exactly for that.
I personally do mix and match , last Year I shifted home and took reference of a mover company from CD , it worked very well for me.

I agree with San. I also use cd recommended service providers. When I moved from Toronto to Durham region, I used the mover recommended on CD.
Opener did receive a reference from a senior member. Still - there was persistence on requesting for more references. What does that say? Was that reference not reliable? Why was it discarded or discounted?
If let us say - 5 references were received by opener in this case - what will be the evaluation criteria for those 5 lawyers?
If reference was being sought from some specific known members - then wouldn't a pm work better than a post on the board?
