Should have rested Kohli , Shikhar Dhawan , Yadav - instead only Shami got a break.

Stuart Binny , Ambati Raydu ,Axar Patel should have played for Kohli, Dhawan, Yadav.

Good Shami was rested for Kumar.

Also give Dhoni a break for 1-2 matches , NOT easy being a captain & wicket keeper at the same time

Nope, that is not the way world cup played, specially cricket . Always play your top players. The pitch was bouncy and you never know what minnows can pull off. One good bowler can screw you nice and fine.
From Captain and Manager's perspective if a match like this is lost or even gone close , media and public would have given them unwanted beating for taking the match lightly.
No need to walk double edged sword ,specially when top players are getting a rest of a week in between matches already.
Dhoni got it right, once again.
