Hi All

I need some advice about what subfloor option should I go with for my basement.
It’s an unfinished one(7 years old house approx.)I am planning on getting laminated floor.
I have researched a bit and came up with Combination underlayment which suits the basement floors.
However, It is an expensive affair. Any other suggestions would be much appreciated.

Prince

Use what is generally being recommended by builders and that suits your budget.
Options are :
1. laminated floor
2. Parquet floor
3. Vinyl flooring
4. Vitrified floor tiles.

Now if your basement slab leaks water, then laminated and parquet may suffer damage but the prevent the cold from coming up.
Tiles / vitrified floor tiles is heavy duty but then it will be damn cold during winter.

Can you explain which underlayment?
Generally they will fix it directly with Glue in the basement.
Underlayment can be a thermocole / hard substance which can take glue on both sides.

Hi TK

underlayment must be both a vapor barrier AND a cushion as well.

Hello Prince77:

I finished my basement last summer and used these dri-core tiles. They are bit expensive but I am happy with the performance, so far (its too early to judge).

I have laminate floor over it.

The basement floor has some unique challenges and depending upon what you want to use it for, select the flooring accordingly.

Hope this helps a bit.

There are 2 new products I have seen recently. One is ceramic tiles of 6 inch X 36 inch. They will look like hardwood in texture. Another is vinyl tile of almost same size and texture. Both are water proof.

Hey hchheda...we are considering the option you mentioned budget is what we are worried about.

Delhite....its the subfloor I was enquiring about....not the actual floor...but thanks though
