Open Letter to Times of India: let's join our hand and circulate to all who is opinion that what was published today was a gross mistake:
Dear Editor:
I have been a loyal reader of The Times of India for the last 40+ years but today I couldn't help but hang my head in shame looking at your coverage of Yakub Memon - his hanging, his last procession, the hordes who thronged his funeral, details of his last day in jail, his family's emotions, the judicial process, what not! Not a word about the feelings of the victims of the '93 blasts.
I was aghast to see 6 whole pages devoted to the Great Martyr while poor old APJ Abdul Kalam was relegated to some obscure corner. I sincerely feel that this sort of coverage it was obscene, insensitive, unnecessary & completely irresponsible. Not at all expected from a publication of your stature & repute.
In view of this, I am sorry to inform you that I am constrained to terminate our longstanding relationship. I am no longer subscribing to your paper starting tomorrow.
I know you must be thinking, "So what's the big deal?! What difference does the loss of one insignificant reader make to our million plus readership?" But it does make a difference to me.
Hope better editorial sense prevails in the future in your hallowed publication & you regain your former glory!
Good bye & good luck.
Forwarding thiis as i exactly felt same while reading newspaper today morning. ......y ester day a message about 2 people being buried was doing the rounds on whatsapp. About how one made us proud and the other made our heads hang in shame. But the Times of India seems to think differently. The first 6 pages in today's edition of TOI are devoted to Yakub, who along with other family members was responsible for nearly 300 people being killed, whilst APJ Abdul Kalam is pushed to page 13. And mind you, there is not a word on the families of those who perished or suffered due to the blasts. The text and the pictures make Yakub a wronged hero. This coming from a media house of national standing exposes our media's priorities where traitors and their family get sympathy on the front pages whilst National heros are pushed behind. THIS IS OUR REAL SHAME!

Personally, I am not in favor of capital punishment, but that's a separate discussion in itself. This is only regarding the misplaced values of the most respected national daily in India. Needs to be circulated and let them know that it has been noticed and NOT appreciated by majority readers.

Many of the critics of our judicial system question what is the "urgency" for execution, even though it was 22 years.
Public memory being short it would be better for us to brush up the same before pointing fingers at judiciary i.e., what happened in 1993 and how the police zeroed in on the accused.

The accused were so much aware of the scale of their operations that they expected great mayhem on streets, with ordinary civilians belonging to different communities attacking each other like it happened during Partition. That was why they left the country along with their families in a hurry.
Not only that, they had forewarned VIPs close to their "hearts" about an impending catastrophe and distributed AK47s and rocket propelled grenades to "protect" themselves on streets which they expected to become battlefield. Their "humane" outlook is really touching. We must thank God Almighty that such things did not happen in Mumbai.
What about the ordinary people belonging to the "common man" community? Who go on streets, throng bus stops and railway stations early morning 3 or 4AM, or return home mid-night after completing their daily trade or other work. Don't they have families, don't they need protection

Hatred and Revenge is a strange thing.
After Babri Masjid incident, this Yakub guy lost it and ended up killing some 300 odd people in Mumbai blasts and got hanged.
After Godra incident, Modi lost it and ended up killing numerous Muslims..& became PM..lol
One gets hanged (rightly so ) and the other becomes PM..ha ha

Here is a basic primer to help understand what’s different about people like “Yakubs” and rest of the mankind.
They believed, practiced and lived the faith that commands destruction and unparalleled cruelty to fellow living beings that did not believe in their religion, including women and children. Few examples of such "enlightened" beings are Bin-Laden, Kasab, Idi Amin, Genghis Khan, Aurangazeb, Mohammed etc etc.
The real irony is that people like Yakubs() who claim to believe in their faith but do not have the guts to live in proper Islamic societies as mandated by Koran, but choose to live in a democratic, non-sharia, secular “Kuffar” societies like India, Canada etc. That is the real question.

Memons are a community from Kutch, which had their Holy Book as one "Dasavathara" and not Quron, till about the middle of last century. The former book believed in the 10 Avatars of Vishnu, the last one being Ali instead of Kalki. Did a change in their religious book have a different influence on them?
These and other interesting facts are given out by Auditor S.Gurumurthy in the following article
