I am planning to replace the furnace & AC before the beginning of winter this year, so would like to get some recommendations regarding the brand that I should go in for.
Currently, I have Carrier which is around 17 yrs old. How is Lennox, or should I stick with Carrier?
Any inputs would be appreciated.

Thanks everyone!

Carrier and Lennox both are very reputable brands.
Carrier had some flaws which were corrected by the company.
It has been well established that correct installation is MOST important factor for these equipment to work properly and last longer.
If you have any further technical questions feel free to ask here. I know a thing or two about HVAC.

I have a silly question about AC and Furnace.

I have a 25 year old AC/Furnace, it seems to work fine. I understand that newer models are more efficient and I ll be saving ~300$/year with new furnace, but other than this, is there any reason I should buy a new model.

Thanks!

Savings can not recoupe the installation cost in short terms. Its a good idea to replace aging equipment to have peace of mind and reliability. Mind it though that newer equipment is prone to breakdown more since its equipped with different new safety sensors.

if your AC/furnance is that old but still working , i suggest take insurance (e.g, 19.99 from reliance home comfort for both) instead of buying . If anything goes bad , you are covered. if you do maths, total cost of replacing AC/furnance will be around 5k and taking insurance @ 240$/year makes sense even if your current equipment lasts for next 5 to 6 years. One way of doing it !

Life spam of a furnace / AC is roughly 15-18 years . People who got more out of their equipment are lucky . Everything has an expiry. Buying insurance on very aged piece of equipment doesn't make economical sense as later or sooner equipment needs to be replaced regardless.
Any companies who provide insurance have a very fine print which translates as
1. Furnace : We will repair IF ( read again IF ) parts are available
2. AC : Refrigerant leak is not included in insurance which is the case in 80% or more in most cases. On top of it you have to pay environmental charges irrespective of insurance.

I have dealt with most companies and lead time for a tech to show up is upto three days no matter what the promise is . Have seen hundred of disgruntled customers due to same reason be it a winter or summer.

I also got a price quote from Daikin which works out to be less than Carrier/Lennox. Not sure about Daikin's reliability in the long run though...

Any recommendation for the HVAC installer/dealer in Mississauga/GTA?

I have talked with Cosmopolitan & A1 AC & Heating, they are cheaper than the big boys such as Reliance/Enercare, but again the Q comes up as to how reliable are they in terms of after sales support as opposed to the bigger players?

I am planning to talk to AireOne this week, will update once I finalize.

Thanks everyone!
