Which bank is good in customer service with regards to reliable timely work. ofcourse who do not make any hidden charges. Some locally managed banks are very poor in service. it takes hours to process a new bank account. Hours to get a proper reply on phone. Many days to process a t.t. My experience was not really good with scotia and canada trust bank- i found personally service is too slow and too many corporate lies. It is not isolated experience but many experiences which makes me feel some banks are real sick here.

Try Royal Bank of Canada and CIBC.. and BMO.. once you have tried all this you will know for yourself which one is more suitable.
Personally I feel RBC is good.. specially if you want to do banking without stepping into a bank.. you can do almost everything online.

Your attitude, not your aptitude, will determine your altitude.
i agree with pramod. i used PC for the past 1 1/2 year of my 2 1/2 years of stayin canada. prior to that I used to bank with Royal. The only problem with PC is they open a bank account based on your credit history and not with any deposit or guaranter for new immigrants. you got to establish you credit history and then go apply with PC. If one is comfortable banking online, unlike the old fashioned book way etc. then PC is the place. one does not have to pay for cheque books and you can get unlimited debits on your accounts
In the year 2003, the following banks were ranked in the order listed for their customer service, ease of online and telephone banking and customer satisfaction:
1. Scotia
2. TD
3. Royal
4. BMO
5. CIBC
I am not sure whether CIBC was last or BMO. Scotia has been topping the list for several years.

I started with TD and HSBC but within a year changed to Scotia. Have been with Scotia for over 3 years - have had some hiccups at times, but nothing related to bank, but the employee's lack of knowledge was the reason.
The problem with banks in Canada is that all of them are such big banks with constantly rotating staff. Another drawback is that the counter staff is someone who knows how to operate the computer rather than have knowledge of banking products and logic behind them.
What adds to the problem for general public is the fact that there is unneccesarily wide variety of products available, which not only confuses the client, but also the customer service staff themselves get lost in myriad of options.
However, if you are able to create a rapport with a personal officer, any bank is good - and the returns and charges keep changing just like special sales in departmental stores.

My experience:
I deposited US $** cheque into my cheq account of CIBC and it took 31 business days (all most 45 days) to cleared.
I had also deposited US $** cheques in Natinalized Bank of India in India and in 24(total) days it was cleared and deposited into my saving account.
You can see queue, like in Indian Bank, here in all banks.
Why outsider banks are not allowed in Canada?
I have paid $16 for just bank balance certificate.
