Hi all ,
It seems School boards are having no preset standard to follow.
My daughters landed in TO on Oct 16, they eldest had cleared Grade 12 from India, and the other 2(twins) had cleared their grade 11th from India , however the district board @ greenwood directed all the 3 daughters to a school in grade 11 , my elder daughter has compromisingly started her schooling with her younger sisters.
Can any body guide on the further course of action to be taken in respect of their credits of their study in India, as it stands I am still not clear on how much credits r they getting for their studies in India

Hi Margo,
It was heartening to read your experiences and it provided a lot of encouragement to prospective Canadian immigrants like us.
I had a few queries regarding your daughter's entry-level job at a lawyer's office. I need more information on the following:
Hi Margo,
It was heartening to read your experiences and it provided a lot of encouragement to prospective Canadian immigrants like us.
I had a few queries regarding your daughter's entry-level job at a lawyer's office. I am interested in pursuing a carreer in law in Canada and needed the following information:
1. What is meant by entry-level job in a lawyer's office?
2. What are the qualificaions required for the job?
3. What were her qualifications in India and did she have to acquire any additional qualifications in Canada for the same?
4. How did she go about getting the job? Are similar jobs easily available in Canada?
Thank you for your patient reading of my queries. Your inputs will be of immense help.
Regards,
Sarkar
P.S. Masoodji, if you could please provide your inputs on the above mentioned queries, as well. It would be a great help!
Apologies to those I haven't replied to. We still have to purchase a reliable home PC and get highspeed internet. Juggling a job, family, public transport, cooking, and housework is another ball game altogether. Whoever said the immigration process is only 15% of the process was dead right .

Yes, I must acknowledge that the Canadiandesi forum has proved to be a great blessing in preparing us for this big move and it surely gave us confidence and a definite advantage. We have recommended it to all our friends who are planning to immigrate to Canada. Kudos to all, and keep up the good work.

In case you still want to know about the Math entrance test, I will check with my son and get back to you asap. It may comfort you to know that for those who are above average in Math in India, the entrance test here is quite easy.
Sarkar:
My daughter completed her BA with Psychology and Sociology and decided to work for a year or so before returning to University for postgraduate studies. It was just by chance that she got into a lawyers office, through networking with some friends of ours. Here networking is very important - it is probably more important \"who\" you know rather than \"what\" you know. By entry-level job I mean one where you join without previous experience in that line, and at the bottom of the pay scale.

Adjusting to high school is not easy. Actually, academically, Indian children would be able to cope; the difficult part is the cultural change and the approach to studies. The son of one of our friends managed to get into Grade 12 after doing Grade 11 in India, but that one year was really a traumatic change for him and eventually he had to settle for Humanities/Arts at University even though he was quite a brilliant Science student in India. I feel it may be a good thing for children to do at least 2 years in high school before going to University, so that they get sufficient time to digest the culture and the approach effectively during these impressionable years.
Jago_desi:
Yes, college/university education is very expensive here. Fortunately, we have 2 years before my son goes to university, and my daughter plans to work for a year and save up for her postgraduation after that. Hopefully, by that time things should be more affordable, and she would be eligible for OSAP.
I hope I have answered all questions.
Margo
