Hi
Anyone else eagly awaiting for the movie "SWADES" other than me?
Vadasambar
How many are waiting due to "Shahrukh" factor?
How many are waiting due to Asutosh Gowarikar factor?
How many are waiting due to ARR factor?
I think, I will wait for the reviews before making my move. It is obvious, that after "Lagaan", expectations are skyhigh, but normally people do not make up to their milestones.

Off topic Meghal...but you seem to be a RD Burman / Kishore Kumar fan...right or wrong ? Incidently I am listening to that song right now...Quote:
Good catch. Yes, my day does not end without listening to atleast one Pancham-Kishore and any other Lata song

BTW Swades's music is nothing great... it seems the Lagaan hangover is still there ! & if I am not mistaken..this movie is bound to make many CBCD's , ABCD's squirm
Swades is not getting good reviews on IndiaFm and rediff. Generally there is a big difference in their viewpoints, but seems like they are agreeing on this one. So I think, I will save my drive to the theatre.
One thing I like about rediff is though they will promote the movie before release, they won't mind criticizing the movie, if it is bad

Good good... Pancham/Kishore ...(add to that Gulzaar)
Phir wohi raat hai,
I remember the days when Lagaan was released. Rediff and other such "sites" had given scathing reviews of the film. I think the film reaching the oscars really screwed their prestige big time. I would watch the film before judging it...Maybe, you should take a drive to the theatre and enjoy it for what it is and not expect another Lagaan.....
Maybe you will have a different opinion
Make sure you watch it in a good theatre where the sound is good..and not @ Albion or Woodside (the crappy theatres)..
In Ottawa its playing at AMC

Meghal Rediff and TOI are NRI (non returning Indians) boot-lickers
As I had predicted..wait for a few mainstream newspapers to review the film
Here is a review by the Indian express.
Movie review: Swades

Swades; Shah Rukh Khan, Gayatri Joshi, Kishori Ballal; director: Ashutosh Gowariker

Three years after Lagaan, Ashutosh Gowariker gives us Swades, a quieter, more contemplative take on patriotism and progress. Gowariker scores big on two counts: by setting his story in a village, and by getting Shah Rukh Khan to play everyman-hero with a conviction never seen in his performances before.
It is no myth that 70 per cent of India, which lives in its villages, has been obliterated from mainstream Bollywood. The director puts the ‘gaon’ back on the map, and this is a brave choice: it was easier to go rural, and stay rural in Lagaan. Here, Mohan Bhargava, NASA weatherman and an about-to-be-US citizen, has to take a tough call between the creature comforts of an American metropolis and the challenges that will face him in a backward, off-the-map UP village.
Leaving behind his high-pressure deadlines, Mohan (Shah Rukh) arrives in Charanpur in search of his beloved Kaveri amma (Kishori Ballal). It turns out to be a journey in more ways than one: a discovery of roots, and a realisation of who he is, and what he wants to be. Helping him in his quest, apart from Kaveri amma, are the spirited Geeta (Gayatri Joshi), a Delhi girl who chooses to run a school in the village, a jovial postman, a desperate-to-get-to-the US young man, a wise village elder, and a few others full of little homilies, and morals.
Gowariker creates some unforgettable moments, when he stops underlining the message so much: that educated, well-off NRIs, or ‘non-returning-Indians’, should help fulfil the unrealised potential of the mother country. Visuals of Shah Rukh in a crowded third class train compartment (where he accepts a ‘kulhar’ of water, instead of the mineral water he has stocked his caravan with) in a bus, in a boat, are brilliant in the way they capture the essence of what the movie is trying to say: you can also revel in SRK in his drawstrings, bathing at a well, SRK in a dhoti, and such.
Amidst the recent spate of mindless movies, Swades comes, literally, as a gust of clean, clear air. There is a languidness to the movie, echoing the lovely lyrics of one of its best songs, ‘yun hi chala chal rahi, jeevan gaadi hai, samay pahiya..’. It matches the unhurried pace of life in the village, but it also makes it much too slow. There are too many times when the movie seems to stand still and at a three-hour plus running time, you want Gowariker to just get on with it.
Those infuriating crawlspaces lead to the danger of Gowarikar’s movie being labelled a flat documentary, or even more derogatorily, an NGO movie, which has to relentlessly cross its Ts and dots its Is. Edited sharper and infused with a little drama, Swades would have been the landmark film it was intending to be. Watch it, anyway, for Shah Rukh Khan: in his businesslike checked shirts, unfashionably straight blue jeans, and his dimpled profile in check, this is the first time he has been so cantered. Finally, a star has become an actor.

I got advanced tkts booked for 1st day last show at a PVR cinema in Delhi.
Got carried away by Gowarikar's Lagaan Frame.
However Swades is a big dissapointment. There is no intellect and nothing new to a very old topic of discussion.
Ashutosh has tried to show rural India suffering from some problems. Believe me even a Delhiite suffers from the same problem of water / electricity shortage. Caste system is not only prevailant in rural but semi urban as well as urban areas. The system is inefficient and politicians do not empathise with the public. It is not only my personal views but people at large who have seen Swades opine it to be somewhat like a DD documentary or a Krishi Darshan show on big screen.
BTW you have ur own opinion to form so go ahead if u can u must see and decide........... My views are from an Indian in India. I wonder how desis overseas will opine?
