Price is not bad and a lot can be done with this basic machine.. You can surf the internet. check email.. and do almost everything.. A bigger hard drive is useful.. and u can get an external hard drive to store movies/music etc.
RAM is not bad.. I would say it would be sufficient if you don't intend to play games or do some heavy tasks.
You might wanna check the battery.. since this is an old laptop you may have to replace the battery.
Its better to have S-Video out.. so that you can enjoy movies on your TV from the laptop.. but not a big deal.

Hi guys, I am back with another matter that I need help on.
Now that i have bought the computer (laptop) with DVD burner, I found that though I was able to burn DVDs of my pictures or videos sent to me on my computer by friends, I am UNABLE to make copies of movie DVDs (both original Hollywood and copy Bollywood!).
I understand that I might need some software to be able to do that - and the choices are either I buy the software or download it from somewhere which is safe and free (is there anything like that in this world???)
So guys, can you suggest me how can I get some free software to download for burning movie DVDs. I have a DVD +R burner.

There are a couple of issues with this.
Firstly, it is illegal to make copies of videos and DVDs.
I am sure you knew this 
That said, here is the next issue -
Most North American DVDs have a copy-protect feature, which will degrade the quality of the video once you copy it.
You can still copy it, but the quality of the movie will be very poor and you won't be able to enjoy seeing it.
However, I have heard that there are softwares out there on the Internet that have found workarounds to defeat this copy feature.
I haven't tried any of them, but you can go ahead and try a few and see if that works for you.
But beware when you download these kinds of softwares because a lot of them have hidden spyware or trojan horses in them.

Thanks Pratickm - I am fully aware of what you have written - but the fact remains that all Indian films are copies - and I have seen some really good copies, so there must be definitely something available which can override the right protect.
No I do not want to download any software with any spyware/trojan horse. But if I am not able to use the DVD burner, then I would like to return the laptop that I have purchased and just go for a cheaper one.

Why don't you down load 'imesh'? Its free and you can download handful of good stuffs free of charge, latest english movies in Divx format (very good quality), books e.g. 'My Life' Bill Clinton, Harry Potter, all the volumes, software, games and many more. I am using since last 4 years and worth sharing. I don't know in Canada whther it is legal!

Google for DVDFab...get a crack from your fav web site..."astalavista" (google for that also) and start copying...(Oops!..backing up your dvds !)
Make sure ur DVD has at least 10GB free space when the dvd is being ripped
