Now to the second part. I need to buy a wireless router and a wireless card for my desktop. Which Sasta/Sundar/Tikau do you suggest and where can I get a deal on it?
Quote:Do you have a regular corded router?
And last one (for the time being)- till the time I get a wireless router, I wish to connect my new Compaq laptop to the corded internet. Will it be simple as plugging in and it will recognise the internet by itself, or do I have to set it up as was originally done by Sympatico guy four years ago in my earlier laptop?

If not, then you will have to install the DSL modem drivers on the laptop and then connect through that.
You would have got a CD from Sympatico - install the modem using that and it will also create the connection for you.

Thanks for the quick advice all of you guys. Now I am getting the real benefits of CD membership!!!!
Yes, I do have normal corded router which I have been using for three over years and have presently connected a laptop and a desk top with it. However, since I have moved from an apartment to a house recently, I am finding it difficult to use that by spreading the wires on the floors from one room to another and therefore want to go in for a wireless router.
By the way, I also need to buy a wireless card for my DESKTOP - which ones do you advice? Aprroximate cost? Is a USB wireless card good enough or should I go for one which has to be installed inside to get better performance?

What price should be good for such a machine ? Asking price is 445 + Tax.
Notebook Compaq ARMADA E500 P3-450MHz 256Mb 12Gb 14.1"
Intel Pentium III Mobile 450MHz (Intel Speed Step Technology | Low Voltage)
256Mb Ram
12Gb Hard Drive
14.1" TFT XGA 1024x768pixels
High Capacity Li-Ion Battery 4.8AHr (Tested and working)
Windows 2000 Professional
VGA Connector
Internal Floppy Drive 3.5" 1.44Mb
Internal 10/100 Network Card
Internal CD-Rom 24x
Parallel Port
TV-Out
USB Port
Synaptics Touch Pad Mouse
2 PCMCIA Slots
Internal 56K Fax Modem
Audio / Microphone connectors
Original Compaq Power Adapter
Is it worth....?
It is not a bad price, I think.
But it depends on what you want to use it for, because the two big limitations are the RAM and the hard drive.
256 MB RAM is really useless now-a-days.
At the very least, you should have 512 - 1 Gig is ideal.
Also, not much can be stored in 12GB now-a-days.
You should ideally have 25GB and above.
But then, if all you want to use it for is some basic document processing, personal accounts, email, etc. then it doesn't matter that much.
