Arey yaar Sanjeev,
Kyon khamkha aisa keh rahe ho? It says right there in the article the test was "administered last year by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development".
Searched on the google and their website is here
http://www.oecd.org/home/
Here's the full report. And no, India is not on the list. So you can carry on with your contention that Indian students are amongst the best in Math.

No "lollipops" here.

Read the article in the morning and was wondering whether I should post it on CD or wait for someone else to do it
When I read the headlines at 6.30 in hte morning, the first thing I looked for was whethere the name India was mentioned anywhere, and as expected (and thankfully), it did not appear in the article anywhere. While we would know why, to an ignorant guys, India was not worth the considertation!
It was the case like that joke - where a young boy comes home and says: Mummy, mummy, main aaj school main race main teesre number par aaya, and the mother beams with joy. Then she asks how many participants were there..................and guys you know the reply given by the kid, don't you???

Well,
There were 44 or 46 countries in the test Chandresh. So maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see how the joke is relevant.
Yeah, had India been on the report, I guess it would have figured somewhere on the top of the list as far as math is concerned at least. But India was not on the list.
You do have the U.S., Germany, Australia, U.K. etc etc on the list. So if Canada figures 3rd on the list for Math, I think that's a good thing, isn't it?
Now if we try to figure out how many South Asians were representing Canada, isn't that some kinda convenient reverse-racism? We don't want ethnicity to be ANY factor when we apply for jobs, however when it comes to something like this, we go looking for Indian faces. A Canadian is a Canadian is a Canadian. Why should it matter who represented Canada?
Anyways, my response was in connection to Sanjeev's original suggestion that the Cdn. govt. is trying to cook up something via these results to lure immigrants.
Otherwise, for the msot part, results of such tests hardly mean much, according to me. Its like one of those studies that come out everymonth which say in January that Eggs are bad for you and in December that Eggs are an excellent source of protein.

The study was conducted by the OECD. Countries like India, Bangladesh, etc didn't figure in the study quite simply because they aren't members of the OECD.
Can't see how this can be tied to an immigration 'conspiracy'!
