My Dear BL,
Thank you very much for blaming me for 'making consipiracy'. I am really honoured.
Actually, it was my mistake that I overlooked the name while reading through the article but I must appreciate the fact that you never bothered to find out the reason why India's name is not there in the list. As a matter of fact, there are only 40 countries for that 'International' test and India, Pakistan, Bangla Desh or few other countries from that region are no where. You are pretty cool man.....give a damn to such things. I wish I were like you!;) Jahan tak sawal raha meri is contention ka ki Indian students are the best, then I would say that may be not, not all the students.....exceptions are always there;)
Hum log dhol baja baja ke duniya ko bolte hain ki Indians ki Maths ki skills ka poori duniya mein koi saani nahin hai, saari duniya jaanti hai ki is sansaar ko '0' kisne diya.......par shayad ab yoon lagne laga hai ki duniya yeh soch rahi hai ki Hindustan ne kya bada kaam kiya, duniya ko sirf '0' (zero) hi to diya, jiski koi keemat bhi nahin hoti................
I am just wondering how many students would be in Canadian team from South Asian background?
BL bhai, mein ab phir wohi sawal uthaane jaa raha hoon, bold and capital mein......aap ise bade shounk se 'Conspiracy' keh sakte hain, aakhir kehne mein to kuchh nahin jaa raha
'COULD IT BE ANOTHER MARKETING GIMMICK BY CANADIAN GOVERNMENT SUPPORTED BY ORGANIZATIONS SUCH AS OECD AND THE MEDIA TO LURE MORE AND MORE IMMIGRANTS IN 'SKILLED LABOUR' CATEGORY BY GIVING THEM A LOLIPOP OF 'ONE OF THE BEST EDUCATION IN THE WORLD' FOR THEIR KIDS?' as they know that no body is going to migrate to Hong Kong-China or Finland just for the Mathematics but if Canada is shown as the top, then it would add another reason in the list of 'Reasons to Migrate to Canada'

Shoot, BL bhai..

The study was conducted by the OECD. Countries like India, Bangladesh, etc didn't figure in the study quite simply because they aren't members of the OECD.

Naaaah! Crenshaw...please learn form the fine analysis of other desis of HOW it CAN be a conspiracy :)

Wonder if Aryabhatt ever was into conspiracy theories. I doubt it...he was too busy being the genius he was. I'm sure there were others at that time who were into conspiracy theories. Perhaps they had to rely on such theories rather than take on people like Aryabhatt OR/AND explain/justify what they recognised as their own failures

Well,

There were 44 or 46 countries in the test Chandresh. So maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see how the joke is relevant.

Yeah, had India been on the report, I guess it would have figured somewhere on the top of the list as far as math is concerned at least. But India was not on the list.

You do have the U.S., Germany, Australia, U.K. etc etc on the list. So if Canada figures 3rd on the list for Math, I think that's a good thing, isn't it?

Nothing to debate on - just that the joke has an indirect connection where it shows that if you chose to compete with participants equal or inferior to you, , or with less participants, you will always be amongst the top.

I remember when I was in college, a new train between Jaipur and Delhi had started, called Pink City Express. It was supposedly a superfast train and called the fastest meter gauge train in the world!! What a consolation it was for Indians in general and Jaipurwalas in particular - but not many knew that there were very few places in the world (and specially none of the developed countries) where they had meter gauge, so obviously, this train was amongst the top!

However, this news as well as various other similar news/events have taught me one thing, and I think we Indians should follow it if we want to be recognised on the world map: if need be, use statistics and surveys to your benefit and make the participants or the general masses of a country to feel proud. Such news is a great moral booster, and believe me, when general masses hear it, not many go into the depth and start believing that their organisation, their country or their race is the best or amongst the top. Though it is not entirely true, but such a belief brings the best in an individual. We Indians can do much better if we forget the shortcomings and start being proud of what we are, even if needs a needle in the arm with such reports.

Do you remember when underground railway had started in Calcutta? We all know that Calcutta as a city is quite dirty (or atleast used to be). But the underground railway - that was absolutely spic and span. Simply because Calcuttians were very proud of this railway which no other city in India had and was comparable to 'foreign'. So, if you can make a bunch feel proud of their possessions, or their strengths (though that might be much less than others' strengths), the individual or the group tends to perform better in every aspect.

And this is what we should learn from the west - we are 'awesome' (however phony it might sound) and we have to start believing that!

Chandresh

Obviously, you haven't either.......(bothered to find out the reason why India's name is not on the list)

The OECD member countries are primarily North American and West European. The study principally addressed the OECD member countries.

See the above for why India, Pakistan or Bangladesh are not included..

Isn't a study that addresses 40 countries international?

This wasn't a 'team event' like a quiz competition or Math Olympiad. It was a study of a quarter of a million students, per the survey!

CIC in cahoots with OECD to manipulate their studies so that the CIC can boost immigrant numbers.......

The makings of a Sidney Sheldon or Jeffrey Archer here......:D

Chandresh,

You'd do well to read the study and get a better understanding of it as well. The OECD is an independent organization, has nothing to do with the CIC, so I don't see how Calcutta's subway or a meter gauge elsewhere has anything to do with this!

Shoot, BL bhai..

My dear Sanjeev,

You're obviously offended and that was not my intention. I didn't blame you for anything. Anyways, apologies for that. You wrote in your original post (which is strangely now gone ;) ) that

Quote:

'COULD IT BE ANOTHER MARKETING GIMMICK BY CANADIAN GOVERNMENT SUPPORTED BY ORGANIZATIONS SUCH AS OECD AND THE MEDIA TO LURE MORE AND MORE IMMIGRANTS IN 'SKILLED LABOUR' CATEGORY BY GIVING THEM A LOLIPOP OF 'ONE OF THE BEST EDUCATION IN THE WORLD' FOR THEIR KIDS?'

And hence my response. This organization has nothing to do with the Cdn. govt. in the first place.

But you're right, "kehne mein kya jata hai?". :D I can't argue with reasoning like that. ;).

And before accusing me of anything like ignoring Indian accomplishment in math, I suggest you read my other posts on the topic. One in which I said

"Yeah, had India been on the report, I guess it would have figured somewhere on the top of the list as far as math is concerned at least. But India was not on the list."

I don't know what else I can say that would make you feel that I'm not anti-India in any way.

However, by belittling this test or suggesting that it was part of Canada's immigration lure, I think you're belittling the efforts of the kids who represented Canada. In our zest to link EVERYTHING to immigration, do you think it is fair to the families of the kids who did their best to make Canada proud? And would we do it if the kids belonged to families that we were friends with?

Anyways, I come again to "Kehne mein kya jata hai!". And that's where i end my arguments.

Chandresh,

I believe that already, man! But that's only part of the effort, na? You gotta back it up too.

Anyways, my whole objection was to take this simple thing and relate it to Canadian Immigration. Yaar, jin bacchon ne is test mein accha perform kiya, at least we can show them and their family some respect. I can't believe that its so hard to take this thing on fact value and give them a pat on the back.

That's all. I didn't mean to offend anyone.

I am wondering that how come HongKong-China, Korea, Japan and Thailand are in North America / Western Europe? I know you would tell that in your post you had mentioned 'Primarily' so does not mean 'only' but I believe that India / Pakistan are not on the other planet. If HongKong-China can be considered, why not India?

If you look at the following link, in its third line.....sorry second line of the page it clearly says that Brazil,China and Russian Federation are not OECD member countries.
