Hi,
Most likely reasons..
1) The ribbon cable connecting the screen to the mother board is bad or there is a loose connection. This is a common problem with the IBM 600 series laptops. This cable is not externally accessible.
2) your inverter board is bad.

why dont u go to ur BIOS settings and change the settings ? You can try to adjust the settings. However, if this doesnt help, then a technician is better qualified to solve ur problem

Any Suggestions?

My Thinkpad froze while I was working and when I tried to reboot, it won't boot properly. It shows as if the Windows XP is starting but then gives me options of various starting modes like Safe Mode, Previous Mode etc. However, even when I select any of these modes the process is repeated.

Any thoughts?

I think that sounds like one of the system files has a problem/corrupted.
This has happened to me (on a PC) a few times. One time I just tried rebooting and it worked. Another time I had to use the Windows repair disk (you should have one) to correct the problem.

Anyone else?

Absolute Last option is to do a complete reinstall of the OS.

by any chance if u r able to re-boot ur system in safe mode, go to microsoft site and install safety pack. It seems to be a security flaw.
