Looks like your display monitor is gone. Instead of service it, you could go for a new one.
I had the similar problem in my laptop. By the way what brand is it. Sony has got this issue and if so, they will fix it. It is a manufacturing defect.

1) If this laptop was bought with a credit card :
Some credit card companies (like TD Visa) give double the warranty period of the manufacturer:
Say the manufacturer warranty is 1 year, The Credit card will give extra warranty of one extra year.
You have to have your original receipt
If not better to buy a new laptop.

I did buy it on my credit card that doubled the manufacturer warranty. I have about 2 months left, so this is the reason why I want to get it repaired and claim the money for the repairs from my credit card company. They have told me to submit a claim after getting the laptop repaired.
Meanwhile, I have also purchased a brand new laptop from Best Buy.

It is an HP laptop, less than 2 years old. I googled it, and it appears to be a common problem with HP laptops.
