Hi Friends

Namaste. I want to congratulate all the people who are exchanging their views, suggestions in this wonderful forum.

I would like to know from you friends, about the opportunities that exist in In bound call centres as Technical Support Representative/Help desk/ Customer Support Representative jobs. What are the specific skills that employer will look for.

I want to develop these skills while I am in India. I am having immigrant visa.

All your suggestions, views and comments will be highly appreciated.

Thanks to you all.

GKM.

Lot of opportunities and good pay like $14-15 an hour to start!!!
There are no specific skills which an employer look for other than the ones they had mentioned in the ad but those are not 'the only ones' which they look for, mind you!
Try to develop better language skills including listening and understanding Canadian English, understanding their sense (read nonsense:p ) of humor, watch Ice Hockey, Basket Ball games, start watching Canadian TV channels and programs like Friends, typing skills (minimum 40 WPM), reading and interpreting manuals, develop soft skills, start using 'Thanks a lot', 'Awesome', 'Great', 'Perfect', 'Holy Cow', 'O Gees', 'Been a long day', 'That's kinda weird', 'Good Job', 'Thanks for holding the line', 'Sorry about that'......as much as you can in your day-to-day conversation. Start chewing a gum (not as a fashion but to avoid bad breath), always keep a pack of gum with you, become familiar with the street maps, remeber that if you have to ask for a particular address, you always ask the major intersection and 'not' the land mark like Mata ka Mandir ya phir Pappu Halwai...develop a habit of going East/West/North/South instead of Left/Right.
Prepare answers to the 'Regular' interview questions:
1) Have you ever come across a difficlut customer?
2) How did you handle that situation?
3) Tell us an incident where you have gone 'out of the way' to help a client?
4) How would you handle irate customer?
etc..etc...
Look for jobs in companies like 'Celestica', 'Client-Logic ' etc.... start applying couple of months before you land. I am sure you'll have a job in your hand within a month if you 'Look, Talk, Smell' like Canadian.
All the best!

Watch out with slang! Slang is unprofessional and if used during an interview, in a CV/resumé, or to a superior on the job, it doesn't give off a good sign.
